hi,
most of the times when i change resulotion or refresh rate
in xmbc it makes ubuntu 9.10 crash and brings me to the login screen.
i am using lastes nvidia drivers and lastest svn of xbmc
Anyone knows a workaround for this problem?
Freek Wrote:Screen tearing in xbmc
The Xorg build in Karmic seems to have the composite extension turned on by default which caused horrible tearing on my build. This can be disabled by adding the following to your xorg.conf file:
Code:
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection
Thank you so much, this fixed my tearing right away. I'm going to try later to see if any of the other visual problems I have are helped by this, but I thought the tearing was going to drive me crazy.
Hi, thanks for the screen-tearing fix. Worked fine for me.
Just for the case that someone has no problems with screen tearing at all and he uses ubuntu, I created a xsplash theme based on Du-Dukes black spinning usplash theme:

alanwww1 Wrote:At least there is a great new way of adding repositories to Ubuntu. You don't have to deal with keys and so on:
For example for nvidia repo you just need to add this in Synaptic
ppa:nvidia-vdpau/ppa
Or in command line:
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nvidia-vdpau/ppa
The rest is done by the script. Including key import.
Now it is easier to make guides at least.
How do I install add-apt-repository?
I've just instal 9.10 karmic minimal, and don't have this command:
Code:
xbmc@MARK1:~$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc
sudo: add-apt-repository: command not found
Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem. This solved it:
sudo apt-get install python-software-properties

This fixed the problem with xbmc but caused some ugly problems with gdm which caused the display to not refresh properly when the xsplash animations played.
oh my god thank you!!!! i was about to give up on ubuntu and xbmc when i finally found the solution all thanks to you!
i havent had any issues yet with gdm having not refreshing properly but my screen tearing is COMPLETELY gone.

What driver version are you running as this is not supposed to be needed any longer in the 190+ drivers.
