Hey, I have a pretty annoying problem on my archlinux box... Sometimes when I watch a video, everything goes bork... The sound dies and when I try to stop the video or to play something else, xbmc freezes. The only fix is to reboot my mediacenter, which is pretty annoying :/
I will try to post a debug log later, but maybe this is a well-known bug and you people already know how to fix it Wink
My xbmc exhibited similar symptoms. In my case it was (still is) a problem in the driver - fglrx (ATI, Catalist 9.10, AFAIK the earlier versions have the same issue). When "Sync playback to display" is _on_ (any setting), sporadically the playback would go wild and then freezes. Sometimes, if you press "stop" quickly enough, the XBMC revives itself in a minute or two and even remembers where it was stopped.
So if your system also runs fglrx try tuning "sync playback to display" off. There will be some very minor (almost unnoticeable) flickering, but the vidoe wil not freeze anymore.
Yes, I use fglrx, but turning "Sync playback to display" off doesn't fix anything for me... But I too noticed that pressing stop makes xbmc revive after 5 (!!) minutes...
Anyways, here's my xbmc.log (Sorry it's kinda cluttered, but I don't really know how to reproduce this behaviour, so I just use xbmc until it happens...)

I think lines 289 and 290 are important...
