I have tried 2 builds of XBMC on an Xbox and get the same result. When I try to add a SMB path I get "invalid computer name"

I have tried adding IP address instead of hostname, verified workgroup is correct, WINS is blank, no typos, share name is correct. I'm fluent with networking but new to XBMC.

XP SP3 system with known good network shares on it that other Windows systems can browse and mod files.

Everything I read online points to sources.xml file but this file is not present on my xbox under the userdata or any other directory. I thought of getting a sample sources.xml and placing it there but haven't yet.

T3CH XBMC 2009-06-01 9.04.1-FIXED-Babylon
What's your log say?

Have you set the network settings in XBMC configuration?
I keep getting errors trying to post the logs, saying there are images and BB code but I will try to get the log contents posted. Here is the first part:

HERE IS THE SECOND PART.
I had to make this an image to post it. Sorry it's displaying a little small.

Use pastebin.com.
The issue is with the way you have configured your SMB shares within XBMC.

smb://server%5cuser:password@Server/data/blah/blah

I am guessing that something has substituted the "SPACE" character with a %5c

Here are some examples:

smb://myfileserver/myshare

Currently your servers name is "server " ***NOTE THE SPACE CHARACTER, space is not an appropriate character within a computer name.

A hint for those of you who are new to sharing on XP.

After you think that you have configured your shares, you should attempt to connect to them from the same PC.

Open "My Computer"
in the Address Bar, type in "\\computername" without the quotes

To find your computername, right click on My Computer and click properties, it is listed in there under the computername section.

After putting \\computername in the addressbar, ALL of the shares should be listed.

If you are unable to see any shared folders listed, you have done your sharing WRONG.

So you now have found:
ComputerName
ShareName

with these details you can fix your smb:// path in the config file

if you have not made the shares anonomous or readable by "Everyone" you will need to also add a username and password to the smb:// setting.

If you need help creating the smb:// string, you will need to tell me:
computername
sharename
username
password
