Actually, when OSD appears, the bar comes from bottom, and the cover/thumb comes from left.
What about cover/thumb also coming from bottom, slightly slower than the bar ?

The OSD Info is full of labels (year, etc) on the right.
Are those really necessary ? Could we benefit less labels and slightly bigger fonts ? Result would be less cluttered anyway I think.

Sure thing. Never said "remove these", just wondering if those infos are arguabily enough if their labels get removed. At some point Alaska had the year displayed in a rather big size (on par with media title, if I remember correctly). I found that very elegant. Guessing if a similar result could be achieved by removing labels.
