Since i've installed the lasest RC1 when i try to run commands from the command line or in putty i get the following error:

(gedit:1685) Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

anyone got any idea as I'm at breaking point with this.
uhrr. you try to run X apps through (vanilla) putty? you're shitting me right?
Uh? I'm just trying to edit the xorg.conf with sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

This worked on the old version i was using before.
gedit is an X11 application/client. unless you have xwin32 or the likes you do not have any X server on your windows box.

to run it on your local X server, use export DISPLAY=:0 prior to editing. or just use a terminal editor like vim (somewhat 'advanced') or nano (stupid and simple).
