hi,

I recently bought a Terratec T3 USB stick to receive DVB-T and it works fine for the SD channels. However the HD channels are H264 encoded with AAC audio and xbmc doesn't output any sound. Picture is fine.

When pression 'o' it says audio D(AAC) P(aq: 0%, kB/s:0.00)

so it seems like the audio stream is recognised but since it's 0 kB/s no wonder it's kinda silent Smile

some info:

* Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic

* Architecture i686

* xbmc installed from PPA. Version 9.11

* debug log: http://pastebin.com/d3ef4986c

Also tried on Windows with the same result and my media center PC running xbmc live.
The libfaad audio decoder is being used so it should in theory work.

I got some of the following errors in my XBMC logs for some MythTV recordings where the signal strength was a bit hit and miss leading to problems with playback.

[h264] reference picture missing during reorder

I didn't have sound during those parts of the playback so perhaps try with a recording where the signal strength is better. Not sure if it's the same for Tvheadend but it's worth a shot.
Ok.The signal is a bit weak and there's some bit errors. But no uncorrected errors according to femon. I'll try and find a better antenna and see how it goes Smile
Ok, now I've got a new and better antenna. The signal quality and strength is almost twice as good as before.

But still there's no sound in xbmc. Audio bitrate is 0.00 Sad

I tried installing the DVB stick in my desktop PC and boot into windows. The vendor software immediately picked up all the channels and I can play them with sound.

From time to time there are minor dropouts as I still need to mount the antenna in a better location, but there's always sound. In XBMC there's never any sound.

Is XBMC just more picky with quality ?

Any suggestions as to how I can help get this to work ? I know a lot of people here in Denmark would appreciate it Smile
XBMC shouldn't be any more picky about quality. I just know that I had sound issues when the signal was bad.

Post up another log and I'll see if there are still ffmpeg decode errors.

Any chance you can post a small sample file?
sorry for the late reply.
Seems like today the antenna reception is way down. So there's a bit of distortion on the screen. Might give some additional errors.

I was planning to get a roof antenna,but the money for that will now be spent on my old busted car instead Sad

Here's a log from today:

Definitely still some errors in the log. Similar to the errors I had with picture distortion and no sound. If you can somehow get a sample of video that plays correctly on Windows and doesn't within XBMC that might help narrow down what the problem is.
There's always sound in the windows application for the dvb stick. If the signal is weak there'll be some distortion,but there's always sound.

Today the signal is very good. Here's a log.Still no sound in xbmc:

Is there any way you can get a sample to play without going through TV Headend?
Finally I've found something that can play the sound in Linux. There's some stutter,but I think it's a combination of a weak signal and high CPU load.

Through some Danish discussion forums I found this branch of "me TV" that can play the sound:

I'll post up some debug info from me-tv maybe it can be helpful Smile

Not sure if elupus hangs around in the forums very often, but I suspect he is the one that will likely have to help as it seems to be related to the TV Headend integration. I can't see where the DVDPlayer starts to playback the stream from the log file. Normally there is some ffmpeg stream descriptors output, but there don't appear to be any.
I may be way off here but last time I checked TVheadend didn't transport HE-AAC - see this post: http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=377...stcount=76

VDR stream plugin worked, but the VDR backend recorder itself didn't.

You may need myth to get this working.
TVheadend does it just fine (in current svn of it). However, our libfaad doesn't like the data currently. Forcing ffmpeg decoder you get some sound, but it's support for he-aac is also quite broken at the moment.
Ok,maybe I should just wait for it to be officially implemented Smile Don't want to have to mess around with mythTV if I can avoid it Big Grin

I don't watch much TV at all so it's all good Smile
