This advise is not up to date anymore. There is no working online scraper in MAWS atm. You could use this one instead.

I stumbled upon http://mamedb.com the other day. I'm not a developer, but if someone who knows about these things would like to check, it might be a useful site.
Thanks for the replies. All looks promising. Happy i've found xbmc, all the medai center addons for this just feel like abondonware.

I think I found some bugs, possibly not reported before(?):

1) when you have videos selected for games, whilst browsing the video will still play if the next game does not have a video.
2) with videos I found that for some reason the background would go blank/black whilst browsing

..both within confluence.
Ok, I have a new question. Im sorry for asking this here, but Im afraid to ask on other boards. Im kind of a newbie. With that being said, how do I get psx2 to load games automatically without haing to manually switch them from rom collection browser. I can get them to scrape, the game psx2 has loaded in it can launch without problems, its just getting each individual game to launch from the collection browser, im having trouble with. Again, Im sorry to ask that question here. Hoping for help.

Any idea how far away this is? I've been kind of holding off on further use of RCB until there is either a separate log for name collisions during import or some other solution to this. My collection includes numerous fan translations and region "dupes" that are intentional.

Thanks for sharing. There are some sites that could be used as an alternative to MAWS. I will check them for scrapability (technical and permission) when the next bugfix release is done.

I guess I have seen the first one. There have been some issues with stopping the video iirc. I will check this again later. The second one does not happen here. Can you show me your config.xml and xbmc.log?

I don't really understand the question. Maybe you can get more into the detail? Anyway, I don't have any PS2 games, so I can't be of help. But maybe somebody else can help out.

As this was requested earlier I guess this could be one of the tasks that should be done next. But I can't promis when "next" will be. Depends on how much time I can spare in the next weeks/months.

What will be the desired behaviour? Maybe there will be an easy fix at the beginning where RCB will use the same description for all of the games and just lists the different entries to give you the possibility to launch the different games. Later it may be possible (if any scraped site supports it) to get different data for the different releases.

Using the same description is fine, but the games should all be separate on the list (not on a sub-menu or something). I am using unique title and snap screenshots to differentiate my "dupes" (and as you say, unique descriptions may be scrape-able in the future).

I still like the idea of an RCB option to prompt the user for a name during scraping if a duplicate is encountered. This could be enabled regardless of what scraping mode is used. So in Interactive mode you could potentially be prompted twice to select the game name: Once for the scraper and again for RCB to have a unique name. This is fine and good.

If enabled: When a name collision is detected during scraping provide the user with a dialog box showing the "formal" name of the game (what it is being scraped as) and a field that is pre-filled with the complete file name of the dupe. User edits this to something more friendly and RCB uses it in the <title> tag of the NFO file.

If disabled: RCB does not prompt the user and silently imports the "dupe" game using the complete file name.

Either way: Log the incident to something other than "scrapeResult_possibleMismatches.txt". Maybe "scrapeResult_possibleDuplicates.txt"?

I think this covers most situations and allows anyone who doesn't like how something was imported easy access to go back and fix it. The main scenario this doesn't cover is if the "parent" game is not the first to be scraped.
I want to be able to load each game in psx2 from rom collection browser. As of right now, 1 game will load from rom collection browser, every other game i try to load from the add on has an error message about the cdvd plug in and i have to load those games manually into the emulator.
Hi all,

Here's my problem: I'm adding my NES rom collection. I followed all the import instructions as specified. It goes through and it scrapes the data for my games (I see it creating the folders with artwork and the .nfo file for each). It also fills in the data for the search criteria (year, game type, company etc), but no games get listed for me to play or select, and my collection says 0.

I'm running Frodo for XBMC.

Edit:

Also, when looking at the log, I see lots of errors stating "error loading game: function takes at most 1 argument (2 given)
Sorry, current version in repo is not yet Frodo compatible. You should use latest test version from here.

Using XBMC v11 Eden.
Ah, just forget about this.
Since installing this addon, brute-forcing closing a hanging XBMC using the Task Manager is what I have been doing the most in XBMC.
It's gone.
When did RCB hang? There is one known issue when you are changing the filter settings too fast (changing the filter while the list is still loading). This issue should be fixed in next release as I changed the logic of applying the filter settings. If there is anything else that caused the crashes on your system, I would be glad to know so I can fix this. Anyway, thanks for reporting.
I only have a 5 game SNES collection.
When I start RCB, after 1 or 2 seconds, xbmc crashes hardly and locking the system, so nothing can be done except the reset button.
Happens each & every time.

The last lines of xbmc.log before the lockup occurs are :

Strange. What skin are you using and what version of RCB?
