Ok so I'm trying to get XBMC to output sound over HDMI and analog at the same time. I've followed all sorts of alsa configs and cannot get this work. I think central to this is that I can not get a speaker-test to run successfully on my hdmi output.

speaker-test -D hw:0,3 -c2

This runs ok put outputs no sound.

The thing I can't wrap my head around is that XBMC does not have any issues playing over hdmi when the hdmi device is set as the audio output option

Any ideas? Oh this is an xbmc-live 9.11 on Revo 3610
Try this:

Thread contains a working Alsa config to do what you want.

I have the same hardware as you (mind you I have full Ubuntu and not XBMC-Live, if that makes a difference).

Works for me.
