My current HTPC is

Core2 Duo E6300
Intel DG33TL motherboard
2GB RAM
8500GT video card
Windows XP SP3

Im toying with building a new HTPC to replace this one but im not sure if i really need to. Im switching to XBMC from Mediaportal so i want to make sure that it will handle everything i can throw at it.

I have the following parts laying around that i could use to build a new HTPC

Intel Q6600 processor
Intel BOXDG45ID motherboard
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

Along with the same memory and video card if needed. Will i get better performance running Windows 7 or XP?

What do you guys think?
Your current setup should be just fine though you may want to go with the Win7 upgrade.

Experimental builds of XBMC currently support hardware acceleration but only using Win7.
You want Windows 7 for sure if you are going the Windows route.

Only add the Quad if you need to do transcoding on your HTPC.
Is there anything i need to know about setting up Windows 7 for XBMC? Any tricks or tips to getting the best performance possible with it?

Also, im looking at setting up a centralized database of my media so i can use multiple clients, im supposed to use r28256 to do that. Does this have the better features for windows 7 that you were talking about?
