I just got my first bluray movie (Avatar). So I ripped it with makemkv like i do with all of my DVDs and then I recode it using handbrake to get the filesize down to something a little more reasonable. When I sent it over to play in xbmc or anything for that matter i get an error message claiming the codec needed isn't there. What is going on?
When I run MakeMKV i can play the MKV file with video and audio in VLC but the forced subtitles won't show up. And when I star the file VLC tells me

VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.

I'm assuming it has something to do with the subtitles. When I run it through Handbrake it won't play at all.
