Full Version: Desktop not fast enough for XBMC?

So I tried to run the latest build with XBMC and the Aeon skin on my desktop. It takes at least 10-15 minutes for it to get scrabbing information from IDMB PER MOVIE and when I move along each movie the fan art takes a good minute or two to appear (most of the time it won't appear at all). This is when it was going through around 400 of my movies.

All of my movies on on a external western digital drive via USB connected to the desktop. I currently have the desktop connected to my TV via VGA... so I installed XBMC on my new laptop and added 7 HD movies onto it. It was able to get the all of the data for the movies within 2 minutes over wifi. I forgot one thing I was doing on the laptop and it caused XBMC to crash.

Below are my specs for each system. Is there something I'm doing wrong on the desktop? Is it just too slow to run XBMC? Thanks all

Are you always a jerk to new users?

I'm not new to message boards, I've spent all day configuring XBMC and reading the forum including the stickies. The entire reason I posted this topic was due to the two different systems I have and that I have tried to find all of the answers on the message board already.

I have the debug log enabled already as well, but I wasn't sure how much of it to post either since the board doesn't allow attachements.

How was I being a jerk? I was pointing you on how to properly ask for help.

There are stickies that explain what you should provide. I even gave you a hint.

A debug log (xbmc.log with debug set) will show us why it is taking a long time.

You didn't even provide the version you are using.
I'm using the latest Windows version that I downloaded today: 9.11
Do you really need me to point you to the thread that states what information we need?

The link is even in my signature.

I'm not sure what else to tell you. I'm more concerned with the issues on the desktop since that's what I'm trying to use XBMC on. All of the issues on the desktop happens everytime I use the program. I'm not a programmer and only know HTML so I don't know what parts of the debug log you need especially when I'm completely new to using XBMC
Did you check my signature?

This link is in there: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...Bug_Report

It tells you what to provide and how (ex: pastebin.com to paste your log).

The link tells you to provide the full log. PLEASE READ THE LINK.

Thanks,

Thanks, I went ahead and upgraded my ATi drivers and tried to disable v-sync since I didn't have the catalyst control center installed... but now the XBMC program won't even run at all now. It gives me a unexpected error and shuts down.

You do not need to disable vsync in the ATI control panel.

You needed to disable it in XBMC.

I suggest reverting your graphics card driver update as it broke things further. Welcome to the wonderful world of ATI's quality drivers :p

Cheers,
Jonathan
Thanks Jonathan,

I rolled back the drivers and disabled it in XBMC.. started back up. I also switched from IMDB to another scrabber and it was able to get all of the movie data within 5 minutes instead of taking 15 minutes per movie... haha.

However, when going through the cover flow of movies it still doesn't show the fanart and sometimes the movie poster art for one movie will display for like 5 movies right next to it. I'm almost certain now my old desktop is just too slow to do this.
Read the thread I linked you to. Disable vsync in XBMC and/or investigate the sleepbeforeflip advanced setting.

Cheers,
Jonathan

I already disabled the VSYNC, I'll try messing with the sleepbeforeflip setting tonight. Thanks!
