Running Kubuntu 10.04, liked what I saw about XBMC. Installed it. Now it thinks it is my world.

The system boots into XBMC, reboots into XBMC, suspends into XBMC, exits XBMC into XBMC.

Really !! Must I reinstall just to get control of my own system.

Sounds like you installed xbmc-live.
Uninstall xbmc-live, it contains a script for booting straight into xbmc.
apt-get remove xbmc-live i guess. Not much info about your install.
