Full Version: XBMC audio is clipping, help?

I have a Windows 7 HTPC that sends digital audio via optical output out of an Asus mobo, and played through a Samsung HT-DS610 receiver. I don't notice clipping when playing movies, but when I play music, it is pretty apparent.

I pulled up Windows sound mixer, and when there is any part of a song that is somewhat loud, the levels are pegged right to the top and sound pretty crappy.

Can I get some input on how to limit the output of XBMC?
You could try and change your mixer settings?
Double click your speaker icon in the system tray.
When you bring up your mixer, adjust the total volume lower by about 25%. Also drop your Wave or Application volume by about 25%.
Just guessing really but see if that works?

What do you ultimately control the volume with? The the pc or the receiver?

I use the Samsung to control all volume.

I lower the XBMC application volume, but it still clips. The setting needs to be in XBMC somewhere I think.

XBMC never clips by default unless you specifically enable it in music via the replaygain stuff.

What happens once the audio exits XBMC we have no control over.
