I just bought a new rig and installed Ubuntu 10.04 on it. When I install and run XBMC all I get is the audio and mostly black screen. SOmetimes the screen will change color but mostly black. Any suggestions?

The setup I have is:
OS - Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx (fresh install)
mobo - MSI 785GT-E63 w/ATI HD4200 on board video
CPU - AMD Sempron 140 2.7GHz single core
RAM - two gigs of Kingston 667MHz
which ATI driver do you have installed?

I also have the same problem, using XMBC from the PPA (9.11-lucid2).

I was using mplayer from the smplayer PPA, but have downgraded to the medibuntu version of mplayer, but still the same problem.

Vid card is a HD4650 with 10.6 drivers (8.741) self compiled from the ati website.

Videos play fine in smplayer, vlc etc. Have tried on a gnome desktop with compiz running, and fluxbox with no fancy effects.

I cannot believe that that was the problem. You would have thought that an "automatic" setting would have taken care of that. Anyway it works now. Thanks a lot.
Hi, I don't know where apply the change that you mention. Can you explane me? Thank a lot
