In Media Portal, you can filter Movies by pressing the numbers on the remote keypad. This was pretty useful in finding a movie fast.

Does this option exist in xbmc?

Yes it does. Checkout the FilterSMS2 ... FilterSMS9 actions, assignable via keymapping.
