Looking at picking up an older computer for cheap. Just want to make sure it's enough for XBMC. Just need 720p. Here are the basic specs:
Pentium 4 Processor 2.8 GHz with HT
RAM 1024 MB or 1 GB ddr2
Any idea what the graphics card is? onboard?
yeah some onboard intel something. I will probably pick up a cheap pci card for it. Just need VGA anyhow.
how much can you spend??
Does it have a PCI-E interface? if so a £30 nVidia GT210 will play everything......
No, it just has a PCI-E x1 and PCI. So not so sure about it now.

Hmmm I'm sure I read somewhere you can buy an ION GPU on a PCI-E x1 card... I'll have another look....

There's also a couple of PCI bus 8400 based cards that should support whatever you need too.
I was going to turn my P-4 2.8 PC into an XBMC box ....this is the card I was going to use
It should run fine and It should do 1080P but I just chose to do something else

Isn't the Broadcomm crystal HD card PCIe x1? XBMC supports that card... wonder if that is an option in combination with onboard intel craphics?
That card is fine - I had that exact one in P4 machine and 1080 was no problem with a Live install.. that was before DXVA for windows was running so you should be good across all platforms now...
Cool thanks guys. Getting the rig for $75 with win xp. So hopefully will work for a really cheap htpc for the guest bedroom Smile
Perfect timing, as the XBMC Live Dharma Beta 2 will hit the servers soon I think....
