Hello,
I have to reinstall my HTPC and took the actual one first, but got problems installing the nvidia driver and also the 24p script didn't work, so I want to take an older distribution. Which one would you recommend? I think 9.10 should do it? I just want to install XBMC and use firefox sometimes, so nothing special...

Thanks!
If you decide to go with 9.10 you'll have support for a lot longer as it's a LTS release (Long Term Support). There are a few other improvements as well. It's the one I install for my friends & family (only have to reinstall every 3 or 4 years).
actually 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) is the LTS release. Previous one was 8.04 (Hardy Heron).

I run 10.04 on a couple of platforms and it works well.

Use lucid. I use it on my machines without problems.
For the nvidia drivers, add this repo https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
$ sudo update
$ sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
