i have pin87's USB Ubuntu Image running on a USB Stick on my Apple TV.
Basically everything runs quite smooth , except when i play 720p TV Series on my Apple TV. I get a lot of dropped frames. within 1 min it 's already at 50-60 dropped frames.

see what a/v is doing. and you might turn off ExtractThumb, that sucks CPU when it's doing it at the same time as playing video.
and you might fix your custom audio device

still stuttering though.

It starts after about 15sec's of every TV series in 720p
it's not dropping frames anymore, but stuttering as hell.

Can you turn sync playback to display off.
Can you also try to play the file from a local harddrive.
sync playback to display is turned off
no changes except that the dropped frames rise again , but stuttering remains.
Shouldn't be a problem of the local HDD; i play 1080p movies without a problem from the network.
what is a/v is doing, does it blip when you get a stutter.

'o' on keyboard brings up the decoder OSD. a/v/ is the audio/video sync.
when i turn on the a/v sync, there way less drops, but the stuttering remains.
what i can see is that the the frame rate varies from 24 to 30 it's jumping.
CPU0 is at 35 % a/v shows 1.600 or so. and rising. now after few minutes it's at 3.200 and still rising
having a/v sync off, i get constant drops and the a/v shows around 0.500 after 30sec and rising
fps jumping up and down as well
were you able to reproduce the error ?

Can you try with render method set to basic shaders(arb).
same problem. no difference.
