Hi!
I am trying to get Gentoo running using this manual:
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Ins...nel_Config
The problem is, that after the gentoo system has booted and i should be able to log in, it randomly reboots. You will just see the black screen und the ATVBootloader starts again. You can just sit there and enjoy the infinite reboot loop. Most of the time it will even crash before the login promt. No hints of the crash or a kernel panic or any other faults can be found in /var/log/dmesg
Kernel: linux-2.6.34-gentoo-r12 -> tried with custom kernel and genkernel. same result
At first it sounds like a memory problem, but OSX+XBMC and Cystalbuntu are running just fine and i have no clue how to get memtest running
Any hints on how to proceed?
Thanks,
Peter

boot using atv-bootloader, mount the gentoo root ( "/" ) and dig out the syslog in /var/log , that should have something in it as to why it rebooting.
PMKnecht Wrote:Here it is. I checked it - but have no clue as why it might be rebooting.
The syslog is from the current vanilla-sources kernel. I've used your tutorial & config file to build the kernel. But the result is the same. (https://code.google.com/p/atv-bootloader...GentooVer1)

If you have any hints... that would be great!

Only thing I see is this "/etc/init.d/sshd[1426]: ERROR: sshd failed to start"
I know. But that should not produce a system reboot. I can unemerge sshd to see if it will helps. Otherwise I have no idea what to try next. Do you any hints on how to do Kernel-Debugging?

yes but with the AppleTV, the problem is there's no serial port
Hmm... any ideas how to get the error tracked?
The rebooting happens really random. At first it bootet fine and i could log in and work on the console for a few minutes... but then it rebooted. The time between the following reboots was always getting shorter - At least it seemed that way. I havent done a deep analysis on that. But i am willing to try a few things if you have any ideas
Plan B would be to give Debian a try. Cystalbuntu was booting just fine from the stick...

Sorry, I don't do gentoo, the guide came from a user.
I tried the current Debian stable release... and it's the same. It is kind of weird. Seems like i will just have to stick to the USB Boot Version.
Anyway - Thanks!
