Hi,

I have just installed XBMC-Live to my Giada Slim-n20 system (ION2).

Downloaded the iso, used unetbootin to create a USB thumbdrive.

Boots and installs fine, some USB thumbdrives dont work (eg PNY)

Connected the system with ONLY HDMI.

XBMC settings (System > Audio):
Audio Output: HDMI
Audio Output Device: Custom
Custom Audio Device: plughw:1,3
Passthrough Audio Device: Custom
Custom Passthrough Device: plughw:1,3

Now I get sound in Movies and TV, but no menu sounds.

How did I figure out the "plughw:1,3" setting???

ssh into xbmc-live and run "aplay -l" (aplay minus L for Larry)

eg:
Code:
xbmc@XBMCLive:~$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC662 rev1 Analog [ALC662 rev1 Analog]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC662 rev1 Digital [ALC662 rev1 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: NVIDIA HDMI [NVIDIA HDMI]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
xbmc@XBMCLive:~$

look closely at this line:
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: NVIDIA HDMI [NVIDIA HDMI]

I have read about 10 guides for Menu sounds, but nothing seems to work on Dharma-Beta3.

Any help to figure out the final step would be appreciated.

Note to Devs, running SSH to find this setting is out of reach of most users. Not power users that read these forums, but people who dont know anything about Linux but want to use XBMC-Live for the appliance like setup.

I hope that Dharma, or the AudioEngine branch will eventually solve these sound issues, and that users can just pick "HDMI" and be done with it.
There is an xbmc-live ion specific build out there somewhere which I think solves this.
I def would have never figured that out on my own...lol

So Thanks!!!!
I have tried the openelect.tv ION build, but I cant get HDMI sound to work on it at all.

Still no takers or trying to fix the HDMI menu sound issue on Dharma-Beta3Huh

I guess I could try and use XBMCFreak distro, but I thought that the aim was to try and feedback issues to get the official XBMCLive distro working correctly.

Including the wiki one? That got beta 3 menu sounds working for me on an ASRock 330.

Edit: Though in System > Audio Output... mine's set to - Audio output device: Defaults / Passthrough output device: HDMI.
Just tried Beta4, no luck at all.

Beta4 will not install. It crashes out with a red screen just after the disk partitioning.

I will re-install Beta3, and try the wiki for HDMI and see how I go.

Try this: http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=635...tcount=330

This might only work on openELEC, but it's worth a try.
Otherwise, you should give openelec a shot, cause that works like a charm.
I am using an ION 2 system my self.
This works perfectly!!!!

Openelec version r4432

Finally HDMI sound for movies and menus on ION2.
