ok i'll read that post again thanks Montellese! Smile

but i tried port 8080 in XBMC and in XBMC-on-IMON,
but still, when i try to connect XBMC-on-IMON to XBMC,
i receive a connection error message....
saying it cant connect...

so in XBMC, i have to go in --> SETTINGS > NETWORK > SERVICES
then i have to allow it to be controlled via HTTP
and i have to set Port to let's say 8085?

then back in XBMC-on-IMON, i have to do the same by opening port 8085?
what about the name and password?
no need for that right?

and in iMON Manager, is there a settings i need to play with?
like i see XBMC in the list of Media Information there so,
i need to put its port on 8085 to!?
by default its at Port 80....

and what about enable API? i dont see wheres that option in iMON Manager....
anyone can point me in the right direction?

finally, do i also have to use my Firewall application and open the 8085 port from there first??

P/S: i dont use SABnzbd+ at all on this pc...

thanks alot guys!! Smile

Yes.

Depends on whether you defined those in the XBMC settings or not but I guess you didn't so you don't have to in xbmc on imon either.

You don't need to set the port there as xbmc on imon only uses iMON Manager to control the display and not to communicate with XBMC. Simply uncheck the XBMC checkbox in iMON Manager.

eskro Wrote:and what about enable API? i dont see wheres that option in iMON Manager....

It should be under "Options" -> "Plug-in Mode" but if you don't have such an options page in iMON Manager you got the wrong version of iMON installed anyway. You need to install the latest beta release and not the latest stable release.

eskro Wrote:finally, do i also have to use my Firewall application and open the 8085 port from there first??
Are you running XBMC on a different computer than the one with the iMON display? If not you don't need to do anything with the firewall.

Last but not least you could enable debug logging in xbmc on imon and take a look at the debug.log file in your xbmc on imon directory and pastebin it so I can have a look as well.
Wow Thanks for your all your help! Smile
i'll try now using the latest IMON MANAGER Beta!!
as the current one doesnt allow me to 'uncheck the XBMC checkbox' Huh

reporting asap! Smile
Finally working!!
THanks to you guys! Smile
Very happy Smile
i did as described

#1.
XBMC --> SETTINGS > NETWORK > SERVICES
i allowed it to be controlled via HTTP
and i have set Port to 8085

#2
in XBMC-on-IMON,
i have set the port to 8085

#3
installed the latest iMON Manager version
and i applied the beta patch for it
then in its configs, i made sure under "Options" that "Plug-in Mode" was enabled
and walla!! it works!!

THansk alot again Smile
Hi,

Is it possibe to use the iMON VFD somehow to display the actual folder's name (I mean the highlighted one) under the cursor in the menu? It would be nice to keep the TV turned off if I want to listen to the music only. But to navigate through my music library, I have to use my TV which is inconvinient for me a little bit. --> using the built in VFD/LCD could save a lot of electricity.

Any idea? Sorry, I'm new to XBMC and HTPC.

Enable "Control Mode" and you should always see the name of the currently active label in XBMC.
HEy Montellese,
perhaps you know the NAME of the default iMON FONT we see
when the LCD screen lights up for the first time!?

I've heard that the FONT is built-in the Firmware
thus, no one can change it,,,
BUt its fine, i just wanna know the FONT NAME...

THanks! Smile
I have no clue about that font sorry.
ok no problem, thanks Montellese

Thanks for your help. I just gave a try to you work, and it's quite promising. Unfortunately it can't handle the chars with accents and the texts stuck in their last state. When playing a music album, displaying the name of the current song is delayed a lot (5-10 seconds), and the file names/ID3 tags are not scrolled. I hope you will fix these in a future version.

Many thanks for your hard work.
shift-del Wrote:Unfortunately it can't handle the chars with accents
Hm special characters like "äöü" work fine on my display. This is handled by iMON Manager and I can't control it. Are you using an iMON LCD (icons around the text etc) or an iMON VFD (2 lines no icons)?
shift-del Wrote:and the texts stuck in their last state
What do you mean by that?

shift-del Wrote:When playing a music album, displaying the name of the current song is delayed a lot (5-10 seconds)
Yeah that's because both Control Mode and displaying the currently playing item are active in parallel and it needs a timeout to define when displaying the currently playing item takes over from Control Mode.

shift-del Wrote:the file names/ID3 tags are not scrolled. I hope you will fix these in a future version.
Hm works fine for me but it sounds to me like you have the VFD which does not support scrolling.

Rather "éáőúűóí" (Hungarian letters). But if any non-English characters can be found in the text to be displayed, it fails. I will check whetrher they are displayed correctly by XBMC. I'm using the iMON VFD.

Quote:What do you mean by that?

If I select "Movies" ("Filmek" in my native language), it is shown correctly. Then I select "Pictures" ("Képek"), which contains a vowel with accent and it stucks at "Movies" ("Filmek") because of this. I suppose it would be fine if I set the language to English, but this HTPC is used by my parents, so this is not an option.

Quote:Yeah that's because both Control Mode and displaying the currently playing item are active in parallel and it needs a timeout to define when displaying the currently playing item takes over from Control Mode.

Is it possible to set this timeout to a shorter value by the user?

It does, WMC and XBMC both scrolls the file names if they are longer than 16 chars. RSS (by FrontView) also do the same.

AFAIK the VFD does not support special characters.

Yeah scrolling is possible from iMON Manager itself but the functionality hasn't been integrated in plugin-mode yet by Soundgraph which xbmc on imon is using to communicate with the display.
Montellese Wrote:AFAIK the VFD does not support special characters.

You are right. Tried to play files with special characters, the display stayed Video or XBMC [Play] and [Stop] mode (depending on the software I used). Files with English only characters are displayed as it should be. The second row worked all the time (elapsed time / full time). Would it be possible to replace the characters with standard ones? á --> a, é --> e etc.

So hopefully it is a matter of time? In a more recent or possible future version of iMON would it be possible to scroll the texts in XoiD too?

Anyway, I set the language of XBMC to English, and your software did very well. Almost everything worked flawlessly, the only problem I found is around the startup process when the display showed XBMC shutdown, and after moving to the right it changed HOME: Videos. So grats to your work and keep on developing ;-) XBMC should work like this out of the box.
Great work Montellese, I was looking all over for solutions when I finally came across your post. Extremely self explanatory and simple to set up. It's unfortunate that you have to implement the solution this way, but it does the job as well as any inbuilt support would from what I have seen.

One thing I am struggling with that I haven't been able to find documentation on (might be a dumb question so I apologize in advance); Where can I look at the keywords I can use? I wanted to experiment with the display to see what all I could put on there. I tried looking at the Wiki for the JSON RPC but I didn't find any useful info there (it's possible I am just being stupid).

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
