I love XBMC, and have been working to find the best way to move my exisiting DVD library from MediaBrowser / WMCE by touching as little as possible. While building my library, I spent a good deal of time putting together great metadata (stored in mymovies.xml format), thumbnails, and multiple fanart images. I'd like to figure out how to trick XBMC into importing the data in a reliable and repeatable manner. First, my structure:
Movie is here:
F:\DVDs\The Hurt Locker\Video_TS\Video_TS.IFO
Metadata is here:
F:\DVDs\The Hurt Locker\folder.jpg, fanart.jpg, mymovies.xml
Ideally, I'd like to avoid putting any files into the Video_TS folder for reasons explained elsewhere.
I'm using Dharma Beta4, and here's what I've found so far when using the MovieDB scraper, using folder names and scanning recursively. I performed the first startup with the following files in place, and nothing in Video_TS:
F:\DVDs\The Hurt Locker\
- backdrop.jpg
- fanart.jpg
- folder.jpg
- folder.tbn
- HURT_LOCKER.dvd.xml
- movie.nfo
- mymovies.xml
- The Hurt Locker.nfo
- Video_TS.nfo
Logfile is here: http://codepaste.net/b5ajte
- The fanart.jpg and folder.jpg from F:\DVDs\The Hurt Locker\ are parsed and cached, but only appear when viewing the movies in "Files" under "videos". I'd like them to appear in Library mode, or under Movies from the main menu
- No combination of movie.nfo, mymovies.xml, The Hurt Locker.nfo, or Video_TS.nfo is parsed in the F:\DVDs\The Hurt Locker\ folder. Instead, the metadata is pulled from the MoveDB.
I then rescanned after adding the following files to the Video_TS folder, in addition to the ones above:
- backdrop.jpg
- fanart.jpg
- folder.jpg
- folder.tbn
- The Hurt Locker.jpg
- Video_TS.nfo
Logfile is here: http://codepaste.net/48awkz
This time the movies/library view used the Video_TS/fanart.jpg and Video_TS/Video_TS.nfo, but had a placeholder image for the thumbnail.
No combination of named files that I can come up with allows me to meet my goal. I'm curious if I'm missing something, or if the parser patch that introduced parent folder parsing isn't part of Beta4. I would rather not pollute my Video_TS folders, as some have reported problems with playback in other systems when this is done.
I'd be more than happy to do a wiki page for those of us who have Video_TS libraries about how we should approach XBMC if I can get this all figured out.
