I don't know if this is the same thing but when i used USBit to create the usb it didn't work in my "less than above board" Win7 Laptop. But it worked on the first go in my ubuntu install.

Use a drive larger than 4GB, works every time. Yea 4GB SHOULD work, but I had drives from three different manufacturers and none of the 4GB drives worked. I picked up an 8GB on sale at BBY and it worked right off.
