Full Version: Remote Control suggestions?

Hello all,

I'm not terribly happy with my current remote control. It's an older model Harmony. Essentially, I am looking for a replacement, and thus I come to you for suggestions.

My problem is that - for want of a better term - the refresh rate(?) sucks. It can record IR from another remote like many remotes these days. I have a Samsung 1080p LCD TV and the remote that comes with it I have mapped to the volume to my Harmony. But when I press the volume control on my Harmony, it's soooo much slower than the real remote for the TV. There's also a mapped button for switching TV inputs, and the same applies there.

Realizing that such a device might cost me a bit more than usual, and being ok with that, I wonder if you kind gentleman could help point me in the right direction, or perhaps help me better understand the mechanics so I might better help myself.

Bonus points for anything with a full keyboard on it, I'd never heard of such a thing before a couple days ago and I'm full on in love with the idea.

Thanks in advance

I don't use a Harmony myself, but there seems to be many happy Harmony users hereabouts.

Well, I appreciate you at least taking the time to respond, since no one else did. Lol.

Mebbe I'm in the wrong #section

Although it might not exactly suite your needs if you're after a full remote control to do everything, I use a Logitech diNovo Mini on occasions. It has a full(ish) keyboard Wink
I can def see the appeal, but yeah looking more for a remote. Found this, though it's only a concept I adore the design:

Though obviously I prefer XBMC over Boxee by quite a bit.
Also a cool remote, except having a PS3 I doubt I could get it to NOT control the PS3:

How old is your Harmony? My oldest one is definitely slower than my newest one.

Second option?

This bad boy uses the Harmony software, but it is own thing:

I think its hideous, but its an option.
If you want something pretty, this isn't for you. If you want intuitive button layout, RF base station, easy macro programming for up to 10 components, and a nice backlight, all for less than $80, shipped, then here you go.
