As many of us Windows users know when you are in Explorer or similar file list and press "e" on the keyboard for instance the first file or folder with "e" as first letter is selected. If you type fast enough it is also possible to "find" whole expressions this way.
This would also be helpful in artist lists in he music library for example, instead of scrolling though a list of thousands of artist names.

I hope you know what I mean - this would be a cool feature

PS: It would be cool if anyone could give me a hint how this feature is generally called.

I think this becomes the most often posted feature request which is already implemented. Press SHIFT + E to get to the first item in the current list which starts with an E. Works for all letters from A-Z but IIRC not for numbers or special characters.

if you want to use it with your remote you can use jumpsms2 to jumpsms9 ("2" is ABC, "3" DEF,...) in your keyboard.xml.
just search the forum for it.
