I am trying to play a 1080p mkv on various devices with XBMC on them. Please see results below:

iMac i3 plays perfectly
Mac Mini mid-2009 plays perfectly
ATV1 w/ crystalHD does not play
Foxconn nt330i does not play

Please see some info about the file:
Video
Codec: H264 - MPEG-4-AVC (part 10) (avc1)
Resolution: 1808x1080
Frame rate: 23,976215
Audio
Codec: DTS audio (dts)
Channels: 3F2R/LFE
Sample rate: 48000 Hz
Bitrate: 1536 kb/s

Anyone any idea why it doesn't play? Anything I can do or are the 2 devices just too "weak" to do the encoding? Thanks!!!

Btw, my TV is "only" 720p and not 1080p. Does this have anything to do with it?
ATV OS X even with CrystalHD is choppy at best with 1080p
Plus if your TV is 720p why bother?
To play 1080p off the ATV you need an Ubuntu installation on USB stick

Thanks for your quick reply. I do have Ubuntu running on my Foxconn/ION/4GB and it is also choppy. Do you think that ATV/Linux would play these 1080p files properly?

Reason why I rip 1080p instead of 720p is that I also have a 1080p television and don't want to keep 2 files for each movie.
Don't know about your other hardware spec. ATV with CrystalHD ad ubuntu plays 1080p fine

Tks. Let me try this then. There used to be an image flying around with latest Dharma release. I didn't find it using "search" (only one, which cannot be downloaded any longer). Do you happen to have a link for me?

Sam Nazarko's new image is still beta last I checked. While that's being hashed out, you can use this "older" image, then update to Dharma via SSH in minutes;
