WhiteLighter Wrote:will Asrock CIR work with other MCE remote, let's say harmony remotes? will it also allow cold start from off? or should it be the asrock smart remote?
yes, you can turn off and cold start with asrock smart remote. you can buy it from here- ASRock Smart Remote Controller - SMART REMOTE
If i'll get only the receiver, will it still works with logitech harmony remotes?

Thanks for this Eskro, do you have a recommended Canadian retailer? I think I saw somewhere you are Canadian?

Thinking about this build with a Video Capture card DVB-s2 and or DVB-T

Maybe a different case as well.
well, for Canadians, its NCIX.COM
thing is, they have what they call priceMatch
which then means if u find something at a regular lower price elsewhere,
they can Match the price!

so for that, what i do is use SHOPBOT.CA
make my search there,
if i find the hardware at a lower price
i copy the link
and request a priceMatch on NCIX.COM Tongue
wicked, Thank you.
Great work from everyone. I have a quick question, is the above still a good option for group 6 user or is there a better , equally priced option?

Thanks!
yes

It's a good place to start, then swap some parts here and there based on your own preference/liking. Don't miss out on one of the best part of DIY htpc...shopping for the best deals Big Grin
definitely shop around!!
The miniITX core i3 2100 build is pretty smart. I'd probably go that route.

I have a question thought about the use of SSDs.. Will adding a SSD to the core i3 2100 build really speed up xbmc if I store all my videos on a Linux server?

I figure the SSD will be capped by my network transfer speed which is sadly around 40 mb/s. So I'm curious if a SSD would actually make a big difference in this case.
My turn to ask a question

Looking at building a system based on openelec. I currently use a Zotac Mag IOn system and it passes audio and 1080p fine, but want to build the ultimate system capable of 3D and DTS-MA etc.

So this is in teh FAQ on the first post
Quote:Q. Out of those builds, which one can Bitstream DOLBY TRUE-HD & DTS-HD MASTER audio?
A. None of them till you add one of these 3 GPU Cards:
ASUS HD5450 512MB DDR3 64-Bit Fanless Low Profile ($35 + $0) (Windows OS only)
PowerColor HD6450 1GB DDR3 64-Bit Fanless Low Profile ($47 + $0) (Windows OS only)
ASUS GT430 1GB DDR3 128-bit Low Profile ($66 + $0)
(Note that as of today, XBMC v10 can't natively Bitstream HD-Audio)

What does the last line mean? Is HD audio no possible even with those cards? Should I bother with a GT430 at the moment or not?

If I get a board for my i3 with a H67 chipset, I get HDMI, will that be sufficient for now until I need HD audio and 3D?
- or -
Do I get H61 chipset mother board which appear to not have HDMI on board (cheaper board) and put the card in now?

What benefit is there in the chipsets on offer?

Thanks

Mick
that line means what it says!
as of today, XBMC v10 can't natively Bitstream HD-Audio!
this feature is achieved using 3rd party software such as MediaPlayerClassic example,,,
Hi Eskro,

I'm about to order the Celeron-G530 build but I had to change a few things because NCIX doesn't carry or have stock for some of the items. I want to order everything from them because of price matching. If you can review this, that would be appreciated, thanks!. (sorry about the mixture of sites, it's for PM'ing purposes). I fit into Group 5 and will be running Openelec.
