there is not just one big .m2ts file, there are multiple. my question is can i set up a playlist in xmbc and if so then how? right now i have been loading each file one by one and i can't enjoy the movie this way. there has to be like 20 or 30 .m2ts files.
click the index.bdmv file. voila.
I've done a little batch file time ago ... so mybe could be interesting ...

Ofcourse "one click" to the index is easier and faster, i've done this batch to merge only the m2ts files of the movie itself, as i don't need all the intros, trailers and extras of the bluray, at least you'll have one m2ts file, in this case:

If you want a tool to that will allow you to merge all these into one file easily try ToNMT.
