XBMC Live is really nice out of the box and playing videos. I was hoping to get lucky but my remote isn't working. I've seen stuff about LIRC. Do I just need to install that? Or are there config files I should tinker with first? I assume that if remotes work for some people out of the box then there is something included with XBMC that is meant to handle the remote.

Sorry, I know this is probably a very common question but I can't seem to find a good starting point to solve this.

SOLVED! A little hint to fellow n00bs: Have the IR receiver plugged in while you do the XBMC Live installation!!!!! Reinstalled and it works.

I also had trouble with this, and I think it was plugged in. A problem is that I could not find anything good to choose when doing dpkg-reconfigure lirc. I ended up symlinking the correct mceusb-config file and it was fine.
