hi, i was wondering, presently i have my daughter using xbmc, i have limited the genres of movies that she can access, animation etc, however...some animation is not suitable for her such as BEOWULF, so, if i set up a profile for her...is there a setting that will allow parental control, say only allowing PG films to show up on her xbmc??

This would be great if this was possible!
Thanks
What I do is separate my kid friendly and other movies to separate folders on my NAS. Then in the kids profile just add the source with the kid friendly movies.
yeah, that would work, but it would mean having another hard drive, when i have one already filled with movies..i see your point though!

Just thought about the above, and i wouldn't need another hard drive....bit slow!!
lol

Wouldn't need another hard drive, just reorganize how your movies are stored on your current drive.
lol, yeah, just realized, thanks for the up gabbot!!
I think it would be great to have a feature like this for the entire collection, not matter where the files are stored.

Maybe the developers just have to add an "Restricted" Yes / No settings or something... into the DB table.
Don't know.
Agreed, it would make life a lot easier for alot of us!!
Please can this be done developersHuh
This could be done with a "Smart Playlist" added to the home menu of your child's computer while hiding the original "Movies" dialog.

Something to the the effect of:

Rule - Genre = Animation
Rule - Genre = Family
Rule - Title is not Beowolf

It has been discussed and doesnt look like will ever happen per rating:

I think a separate profile with specific sources is your best bet and gives you the most control over what is available.
yep, reading through those links does make it look like it won't happen, i guess there's too much involved like they say, your suggestion is the one i'm taking up gabbot! Thanks!
Profiles are probably the best option alternatively you can lock a source so it doesn't appear in your library meaning you can exclude the stuff you don't want available to your kids but this would still require your kids stuff to be in a separate source

I do it with Smart Playlists for now but a much better solution would be to have real integration of a rating feature. Must not be an MPAA rating but something like this.

We have the master key feature so why not utilize it?

Profiles are to complicated. We have to reorganize all media files and users have to switch the profile everytime to restrict something.
Not a good solution.
i think what i am gonna do is just take out all the movies she shouldn't be watching, put them into a seperate folder, and then her xbmc will no longer be able to access them, and then all i have to do with the master xbmc computer is to re-scan the folder i just made up!

Problem with a solution like that is it still would require manually tagging all your movies (with a large library that could be alot of work).

All it takes is someone with the interest and coding skills.
