Full Version: Q: Using MCE remote as transmitter?

Hi,

I have XBMC Live installed in my living room controlling it with a MCE remote. It is a bit annoying to have additional remotes for only turning on/off an LG TV (one press), and on/off + volume on passthrough on my NAD T743 Receiver.

I would like to use XBMC to control the TV and the receiver, I have search a bit in this forum, and also found a wiki, saying that this is possible, if I have the correct hardware, supported by LIRC.

It seems like the remote I already have, has some emitter/tramsmitter funktion, this is the one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/OEM-HP-MCE-KIT-REMOT...3166wt_905

There are two jacks on the back of the box, and it had one IR-LED in the box.
I would like to know If I could use this for my purpose, or do I need to get some additional hardware.
The XBMC box is a Zitac IONITX board, which doesnt have Serial, so if the hardware I have cannot work, I probadly need to find some USB Transmitter that works, any suggestions is very welcome.

Sincerely
You can actually set the on/off button on mce remote to turn off/on your tv, and use the volume buttons on something else reciver/tv etc.

here is one of many tutorials to do so:

hope this helps

Thank you.

Im not sure the one I have, has this ability, I tried the guide and couldnt get it to work.

Also, I was contemplating a litte more intelligence in the setup.
For example, I want XBMC to automaticly to turn of the display when playing music or is inactive for some amount of time, the blanking of the screen causes a 'no input connection' to flicker around the screen as it is now.
Also, I want XBMC to turn on/off my receiver and, so I would need tree on/off buttons on the remote, one for XBMC, TV and Receiver. It would be much nicer if I just had to press one on/off button and not dedicate the keys for this.
It would also be nice if the volume bar on the TV and the receiver was in sync. (Perhaps have a startup script that turns the receiver to 0 dB, and then up to perhaps 30% so that they are in sync.)
I think eventghost supports the Microsoft IR Blasters, you could probably get all the features you want working using it. Its a little bit over my head, but im sure some people in the forums here and over at eventghost will be able to help you.
I've been using a redrat http://www.redrat.co.uk/products/index.html for years.

It's very powerful, sitting in the corner of my room it can hit all my AV equipment but prices seem to have taken a hike !
