Hi all

Specs are below
XBMC 10.1
Win7 32
2.66Ghz Celeron
1gb Ram
NVIDIA 7600GS
Nvidia driver 266.58
Debug Log
http://pastebin.com/K61ixMqB

I am having troubling getting DXVA2 running.
I have enabled it in the XBMC menus, however whenever I play a 720P h264 file ('How I met your mother' in the Debug log), the CPU really struggles and drops lots of frames.
When I press 'o' I can see the Codec info, and that it is a h264 codec, but not the tell-tale DXVA2 indicator

I'm sure the Nvidia 7600GS should be able to handle DXVA2. I downloaded MPC and it plays a lot smoother with that program, but not sure how to tell if it is using dxva

Am I missing something really simple?

Glen
The 7600GS doesn't support DXA2. The relevant line in your log is:

Code:
DEBUG: DXVA - unable to find an input/output format combination

MPC-HC uses DXVA1.

Ok thanks for that.

The only reason I got that video card was because the wiki listed the 7000 series as being dxva2 compatible (and also because it was AGP)

XBMC wiki

Video card that supports DXVA2 such as one of the following:

ATI Radeon HD 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 series

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 200 series

NVIDIA GeForce 9000, 8000 series (except 8800 GTS/GTX), 7000 series

How can I tell before I buy another one, whether it will support dxva2?

I think its poorly worded the except in brackets means the 7000 series as well

Go for a VP4 card the 210, 220, 240 are quite popular on here if you do a search of the forum

There is a list here

The AGP Radeon HD 4650 does DXVA2, I can vouch for that. I bought the card just to give this machine DXVA2 for it's future as an HTPC and it decodes wonderfully. 1080p video and minimal load on the Athlon 64 3200+ CPU. Smile

How to enable hardware decoding under XBMC Live (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS) with Radeon HD4650 ?

Pawel
When getting a card for DXVA2, you should read Anand's HTPC GPU review: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4380/discr...hootout/16
