Is there any way to have XBMC run a command when it comes out of the screen dim or off "screensaver" mode?

Right now I've got my disk array set to spin down the hard drives to save power. What I would like is to have XBMC touch a file on the array, so that while my TV is turning on, the drives are spinning up. Right now what happens is that when I press a button to wake up XBMC, I have to wait several seconds while the TV powers on, then (once I select a folder or view that isn't cached, or a show to watch) I have to wait again while the array of drives spins up. It's a minor nuisance, but I'd like to get rid of it anyway. Is there currently a way to do this?
If you're on Mac OSX then Sleepwatcher may be able to help.
I'm running Linux (specifically, Ubuntu) so that's a no go for me.
