It took me ages to finally upgrade my video card, so I can enjoy 1080p videos, and looks like I did screw up!
After some googling I found that the cheap ati 4350 would be the best choice for my scenario, well, there're some talk about it playing hi res videos without a hit, that conviced me.
Then I got Asus EAH4350 Silent/256M. A nice low profile video board with hdmi output.
But I didn't notice this little warning on the box: Not support Full HD (1080i/1080p).
Searching Asus website, looks like the 256Mb version do not supports Unified Video Decoder 2 (UVD2), all the others versions does (512mb/1gb).

I'm running Windows XP, so no dxva for me, and I got a lot of frame drops when trying to play 1080p files. Does I have a way to fix this or I really screw it up?
Cheers,
better to try under win7 at least to have access to DXVA2!
512mb is the magic number....
but overall, i would have suggested you to go with
a ATI 5xxx Series or a Nvidia GT210!!

Cheers,
I've heard and seen people on forums fix this with a registry hack, but I think they were just limited to media player classic, didn't have much success with other media player. That was a long time ago, you might wanna google around and see if you can find a solution. If you just want to upgrade instead of messing around with hacks and settings......the hd 6450 will be available for $55 next week or the next. Great reviews on this card.

Nice......I bought an EVGA gts 450 in early December, and I'm still waiting for the rebate. It was a nice one, a $40 rebate but when I check it, it say's sent for processing "visa"......sucks.
Well I got a Win7 machine to test it, but even enabling dxva2 it drop frames all over the place
Funny is the cpu don't go past 15%, so the video card is really decoding the video. But it looks like it can't handle those hi def movies (like was written on the box anyway).

+1 this - not sure Jair where you got the recommendation for that ATI card, but it wouldn't be from these forums - Nvidia GT210's at the choice - cheap, come in fanless options, and work flawless in both Linux/Windows.
Cut your losses and get a GT210,
Well then, gt210 here I come...thanks all!
Should work just fine, where did you find it and how much?
I found it in a Brazilian auction website for about US$65, which is cheap for a card like that here in Brazil :|

Wow, we are paying $15 for those cards.
Lol just for letting you know how this turned out...
I bought a Zotac Geforce 210, but it happens to be somewhat incompatible with my motherboard. I got the same problem as the following:
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=150630
I got a really slow post screen after turning the PC on.
Now I cannot return the videocard (and Zotac don't bother to release a vbios fix for it), and gigabyte don't support my mobo any more to release a bios fix for it. Cat and mouse situation...
Really bad luck....
