RE: Zidoo X9S (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio): Review & User Impressions - movie78 - 2016-09-30 Are you testing the HDR content on an HDR TV or just a regular 4K TV? With the TV specialist( eg. David Katzmaier), HDR is totally different from 4K but that is a debate for another day. RE: Zidoo X9S (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio): Review & User Impressions - hdmkv - 2016-09-30 Regular 4K TV, w/o HDR sadly. I'm testing if playback is smooth, and if PQ is free of any ill artifacts. That's all. Hopefully users w/HDR display will get their hands on a X9S and report their findings at some point. RE: Zidoo X9S (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio): Review & User Impressions - OlivierQC - 2016-09-30 Hello hdmkv, if you send me your zidoo, i can check that RE: Zidoo X9S (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio): Review & User Impressions - movie78 - 2016-09-30 (2016-09-30, 15:31)hdmkv Wrote: Regular 4K TV, w/o HDR sadly. Sure! But, seriously, grab one off Amazon, eBay or PM @mirror88 . Take it w/grain of salt though. Its all W**K value if you ask me, considering triple layer UHD Blurays Max out at 128Mbps. Tests like these being done really are completely irrelevant. RE: Zidoo X9S (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio): Review & User Impressions - hdmkv - 2016-10-01 Agree. I'm really only putting media players through the 400Mbps clip just to see how good their GigE throughput really is, but for actual use, like you said, 128Mbps is enough. If a media player can do 140Mbps, it should safely be able to play any 4K. Also, who knows if we'll get ability to rip UHD BD's. Watched 'In the Heart of the Sea' 3D ISO last night, first half on X9S, and second half on Intel i3 w/Kodi MVC build. I couldn't see any differences; both as good (again w/o benefit of a side-by-side comparison). Maybe some extra perceptive users will. Really liked the movie, w/solid use of 3D effects. Don't know why it didn't fare that well w/critics and audiences. RE: Zidoo X9S (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio): Review & User Impressions - wrxtasy - 2016-10-02 I've added a section for Newbies - Plug N Play turnkey Kodi media player solutions that work out of the box or by simply downloading the Kodi App from various App stores, in the START HERE thread. I'm not including Kodi boxes that either require sideloading of Kodi / SPMC etc. Nor devices that require extra users steps and external wrapper solutions to be applied to use the special features of the particular box. (ie 1080p 3D). From what I understand HiMedia's Q5/10 devices require extra steps and wrapper solutions to first be applied. So simple question does ZDMC on the X9S work out of the box and meet those Newbie turnkey criteria ? RE: Zidoo X9S (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio): Review & User Impressions - hdmkv - 2016-10-02 Both Q5/Q10 Pro and X9S work out of the box... With Q5/Q10 Pro, the wrapper APK is preinstalled (as of the last few f/w releases), as is Kodi (forgetting which version). Reason HiMedia doesn't pre-apply the wrapper is that they obviously don't know whether user will stick to preinstalled Kodi or install another version of their choice. In any case, all the user needs to do is run Kodi once, quit, then launch the wrapper app, apply it. Done. With X9S, it's a more elegant solution. Launch ZDMC and simply enable 'Play video with external player' in settings (as shown in a screenshot in photo gallery in my review). Done. They're a good stress test for networking and the underlying sub-systems though, particularly for UHD. Whilst UHD Blu-ray and streaming services may max out at relatively low bitrates, it's entirely possible to shoot UHD video using DSLR or Mirrorless cameras at quite a low price point, that will run at higher bitrates. Whilst a lot of these will be in codecs or colour spaces that aren't compatible, not all of them will be, and people may chose to transcode at higher than normal bitrates to retain quality (or use a less heavy-duty codec) Some of us don't just use Kodi for watching content made by others, some of us use it to watch content we make ourselves :-) For bitrate reference : http://www.cineverse.net/images/SONY_F55_and_F5_RECORD_DATA_RATES_and_TIME.pdf These are the bitrates being used in broadcast and professional situations - albeit all 4:2:2 or RAW - but they give you an idea why 400Mbs isn't an insane suggestion... RE: Zidoo X9S (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio): Review & User Impressions - lofgents - 2016-10-02 Please would anyone be able to comment on the video quality on a 1080p display(55 inch Sony). I am torn between this and the Hi media Q5 Pro but comments about the Imprex engine and frame stuttering are leaning me toward the X9S. I will udate to a 4K display in the future but want the best quality in the meantime. Thanks. |
