RE: HiMedia Q10 Pro with Kodi: Reviews & User Impressions - PJDavis1970 - 2016-04-19

I sorted out my problem with auto switching to 3d mode on tv. I have a Samsung 55JS8500 and it comes with an external connector for HDMI etc. It turns out I needed to use the 4th HDMI which I wouldn't have expected.

Found a few more issues last night though.

- When playing 1080p SBS 3D I had the same issues hdmkv had with the lines on each side of the screen. Its like an x pixel width 50% transparent box. It appears on both sides and gets thicker and thiner through the movie.

- Bluray ISO I cannot get any sound playing what ever I do. Passthrough / q10 decoding. nothing seems to work. I only tried the ISO this morning and didn't have much time to mess about but will try again tonight.

- Audio sync goes out after 20-30 minutes. Stopping and starting corrects but still annoying.

Himedia Q10 Pro 4K playback issue.

I tested a few 4k files and most of them can't playback, either I get a Black screen with sound or jittering playback.
Life of Pi - Ultra-HD HDR from UHD-3D demo
Big Buck Bunny 3D 2160p 60fps

Still testing...

HDR doesn't play... already pinned as known issue, but 10-bit non-HDR should. Haven't had jitter w/other 4K yet, all those here.

Can you test the Big Buck Bunny 3D 2160p 60fps video in the link that I provided?

Hi,

I had a LaCie PlayHD before but unfortunately the Mediaplayer died some days ago and I am looking for a new solution which works for me.

What I would like to do:

I would like to copy content (Music & Movies) from my Notebook to a mediaplayer and play the content on my TV. (mostly 1080p/24p MKV)

4k & Atmos etc. would be great but not necessarily needed as I don't have a 4k TV or Atmos receiver at the moment.

Just a few questions about the Q10pro:

- Is it possible to use it without an internal drive first? (I just want to see how it works), just external HDD with USB connected
- How do I copy the updates/Kodi Firmware etc on the machine without an internal HDD or SD card?
- Can I use the Q10 without any NAS or network just with an internal HDD and an external HDD?
- Does it play 1080p/24p DTS and DD 5.1 content from an external HDD (connected via USB) fluently without any problems?
- Does it play 1080p/24p DTS and DD 5.1 content from an internal HDD fluently without any problems?
- Does it play 4k content from an external HDD (connected via USB) fluently without any problems?
- Are NTFS partitions supported? (read & write)

Thanks for answering my questions..if the answers are yes I think I'll buy it ;-)

Cheers
Arti

  • Yes, SMB (non-password protected) or mounted NFS
  • Kodi and device firmware are separate. Get any version of Kodi (v.16 latest recommended). Device firmware via main menu (still on shipping firmware at this moment; no new one yet).
  • Yes.
  • Yes.
  • Yes.
  • For the most part, yes. HDR is presently broken, maybe other types.
  • Not sure, but I believe yes.

That's a 4K HOU/TAB 3D file. Didn't know such existed... 3840x4320. If not playing on your Q10 Pro, then likely unsupported. I bet HiMedia hasn't even accounted for this video type. I've tried 5K and 8K 2D files, and they don't play. But, neither on nVidia Shield.

- How do i install Kodi on the Q10pro without internal HDD or SD card?

thanks for the quick reply!

RE: HiMedia Q10 Pro with Kodi: Reviews & User Impressions - hdmkv - 2016-04-19

Yes to 1st question. Re: 2nd question, Google Play store is included in the main menu, but I prefer to grab APK (ARM version) from Kodi site, put on a USB stick, and use file manager app to install. After you run Kodi, you should quit out, then install the wrapper (and apply it).

If that is the actual resolution of the file, I don't think you will be able to play it on the Q10 Pro, Shield or any other Android device. They are all limited to processing 4096 x 2160. You will probably need an nVIDIA/AMD GPU for that. I don't think even Intel HD Graphics support that resolution for H.264.

RE: HiMedia Q10 Pro with Kodi: Reviews & User Impressions - MrArtifex - 2016-04-19

Would this HDD be a suitable internal HDD for the q10pro? WD Red 6tb: WD60EFRX

RE: HiMedia Q10 Pro with Kodi: Reviews & User Impressions - hdmkv - 2016-04-19

That HDD should work, but better ask at Futeko forum.
