Situation:
latest kodi nightly (KodiSetup-20151130-558a8f1)
Clean SQL Database
no addons in addon folder ( except madnox oc )
no addon settings in userdata/addon_data folder
Database folder empty
thumbnails folder empty
lets say... a realy clean kodi setup
after first start, kodi add these addons:
metadata.common.imdb.com
metadata.themoviedb.org
resource.language.de_de
service.xbmc.versioncheck
ok... lets start stresstest without anythig in it... in and out of menus, system settings ... i was realy dizzy of all those in and out ( animations
) well... not bad...no freezes yet...
lets add some shared folder... 1 with movies and 1 with tv-series... still NO FREEZE
after this another stress test ... in and out etc... restart kodi a cpl of times, and even my pc 3-4 times ... - NO FREEZES !!!
pffff ok my bloody friend... lets try all my shared folder ( well... lets say... i have some
) ... 20 shares later ... - NO FREEZES !!!go through all menus - scroll around ... the old in and out game ( again... i mean the animation
) restart kodi and pc a cpl of times ... NO FREEZES !!!!maybe its an addon... ive noticed just a small CPU usage - with my full configured and full of addons madnox is running with around 70% cpu usage... now i am almost under 10 ... a good sign
aaaand again the ... animation game... out and in and out - start some movies, tv series... - NO FREEZES !!! - restart kodi and pc ...
ok, lets add my music library... dumdidum... ok, done... lets play some music ... without any configuration ... start - stop ... NO FREEZES !!!! ... hmmm ive noticed a realy realy small smile on my face... ok... lets restart kodi and pc again ( sorry my poor lill pc... )
ok, now some serious music test ... configure my favorite settings... some nice milkdrop colors in backround ... because i dont use drugs... and i think this is a bit like it... some extrafanart ... alt visuals ... well eyecandy stuff... volume up and some nice ADELE music ( WHO IS LAUGHING THERE
) ... lean back... enjoy... next track play... no freeze... niiiice... calm down.... ok enough relaxing... much work to do 
press STOP ! .......

.......
yeah...
.......
......
oh yeah.....
.......
.......
it freeze
...okay... maybe kodi dont like adele and flac atm... lets try something else
restart PC of course... start kodi - go to music - start some metallica ... skip some tracks forward ... STOP aaaaaaand FREEZE ... damn...
okay - after another restart of my pc ( sorry again lill pc ) i disable all eyecandy stuff - no visualisations - no jadda jadda - just MUSIC info on screen and static backround of artist -
play adele again ( yeah stress test ) ... skip some tracks - back and forth ... STOP ... aaaaand NO FREEZE ... try again with other music --- again no freeze ...
ok, leave the music like it is for now - oh, and still no info in logfile why its freezing
back to movies and menu ... oh, i noticed, i missed one shared folder... go to videos .... hmmm... yeah... u know what now happen... mr.freezy-peezy is comming to town
well... i dont drink alcohol, and dont take drugs... but in this moment i want some whiskey or something similar.... over 2hrs of testing - back and forth ... in and out ( ANIMATION !!! ) nothing...and now again
still no other addon installed ! just the 4 kodi addons i mentioned in the beginning ! - so i think ... i reeeeealy think... its not a ADDON problem alone...
ive just noticed again this line in my log file:

i have this sometimes - but never as a last entry
well ... after i search my appartment, and cant find any alcohol... i drink some tea... and just imagine it was hardcore rum from KUBA - OLÉ !
a bit drunk i restart my kodi and pc again - go to video ( still one shared folder missing ) - and BOOM - direct freeze on first entry
HELLOOO - thats fast dude ... in the meantime my "rum" was empty ... damn... ok... try something else ... RESTART my PC
start kodi... waiiit a cpl of seconds... ( the time to pray some hallelujas ) ... go to videos ... add my shared folder ... no freeze ... maybe mr.freezy-peesy was peeing or tired ... ok ... STRESS TEST

) back and forth - start some movies/tv series ... start an album.... nada freeza OLÉ ( need some more tea now ) restart kodi ( not the pc... i think i saw some red eyes staring badly at me out of the pc case... so i skip it this time ) ... wait a cpl of seconds - go through some menus etc niente freezente... ok... lets wait a bit... aand again in and out... no freeze again...
i am checked also my sql database, if i can find some strange entrys or so - but nada ... looks all good
well thats my actual situation... i realy think we should wait for the "final" jarvis version ... ( i mean the one after the RCs ) ... not the 16.x
sorry for the ... maybe a bit long story, but i just wanna show you my world atm
still open for any ideas... and i think i will test again from time to time with fresh nightlys... but i realy dont know where to start searching without any logfile info... ( will check tomorrow or weekend my windows logs... maybe there is something ... )

I fail to see how this is a hardware problem at all. As I have said these freezes are the reason I had to move to MQ6. These crashes/freezes do not occur in any other skin (MQ6 included), but MadNox. So to my mind it is definately skin related. Appreciate what you guys are trying to do in rescuing mine and many others favourite skin but fear you may be flogging a dead horse, I hope not I miss MadNox.

I have been working on MadNox for a bit and have a Jarvis only test for you guys to try out to see if it stops any freezing.
Please read the instructions carefully:
1) Remove the skin.aeon.madnox folder from your addon folder *DO NOT DELETE IT*.
2) Extract the skin.aeon.madnox folder from this zip file and place it in your addons folder.
3) Copy the extras folder from your old folder that you did not delete
and paste it into this new one.4) There are some specific Jarvis changes so DO NOT INSTALL ON ANYTHING OTHER THAN JARVIS!!
5) Let me know if it works after testing for a bit unless you have a surefire way to always cause a freeze or crash.
If it does fix the problem I can PR the changes to Mike but I will not know what the exact fix is unless my theory is correct but that will have to be discussed with schimi and mike if this does in fact, solve the issue.

Hi Schimi,
first of all thx for trying!
I am almost certain, that this problem can't be hardware based due to the fact that its running perfectly well even though I have like 2-3 additional programs running, that are heavy on resources.
I had freezes with and without high CPU/GPU usage. I've installed all add-ons / script that are recommended for Madnox and a lot on top of it and I don't get as many freezes as you guys and that considering that I'm basically in the middle of adding media and fanart and themes and so on for the whole day. Going in and out of menus etc. btw my CPU usage is (while in the main menu) between 15% and 30% and Memory is at about 20%
To me it sounds like Madnox has a problem to "turn the page". Freezes for me only occurred while going from the main menu to movies (i.e.) others reported about going out of the info screen and you also reported a freeze while stopping the music. I'm not a coder and I have no idea how its written. But did something change in handling the request (please go here) and the programs response to that?
Last tiny idea I would have is that it might have something to do with the additional view types. I'm using Kodiflix in pretty much every directory which is unique to Madnox...
Otherwise I'm out of silly ideas
But maybe if you have the ability to test ist without all the additional view types its worth a try... what du you think on that?

Navigated. Played a couple songs. Moved in and out of many windows. Browsed libraries, etc.
Parked in a movie title info window with no activity for 5 mins throws windows error
Exception caught on main loop: Exiting.
It's happened before.
Prior to this, been using Confluence for 3 hrs, no problems.

To help out test I followed your instructions mikesilvo164, as soon as I clicked on Oscars in the movie sub-menu it froze. Not sure that helps much but figured Id let you know.

I applied your fix. Did a stress test for about 3 hours. Fast switching into movies,tvshows, back to main menu played music, stoppped music. Changed skin widgets, did some library scanning and cleaning.
All i would do in every day use. So far no freezes.

I have only been fixing issues as I come across them while removing anything that is not being used. I do not expect it to fix every issue but hopefully it can help with the freezing one. As everyone is more than aware the code used in MadNox is very old and needs to be updated. The problem is that updating most likely will lose some features but if you cannot use those features what good are they in the first place
I had a few moments of free time so I thought I would try to help out but there are a lot of things that need fixing and some are very time consuming and it is hard to know if those are the reasons for the problems to begin with. I am currently working off my own fork of MadNox and I have been deleting things like crazy to try and narrow down the possible reasons for the freezes. I do not use this skin so it is up to you folks to try it all out and report if anything works or does not. Keep in mind that some things like the mentioned "Exception caught in main loop" may just be quirks of Kodi being in beta (especially if you use nightlies). Hard to know if that is the case though. I recommend everyone add <loglevel hide="false">1</loglevel> to there advancedsettings (wiki) so debug logging is always enabled but without displaying the annoying overlay.
If the freezes are connected to the disappearing textures problem then a scrap and rewrite is probably the only solution since too many window properties are used to create things in the skin. The best option would be to use script.skinshortcuts for the main menu and widgets.
Doing this could "possibly" reduce the available features but, as mentioned previously, if you cannot use them then... I will definitely not be focusing on doing that but if Mr. Mike wants to take up the challenge and needs some assistance I will always be around to offer it.
To make things as easy as possible I have made a new branch called minimal_madnox so if someone wants to try the latest changes I have just made then they would only need to replace the small amount of files in that branch to update by extracting the zip file contents and overwriting the files I previously posted (overwriting the regular GitHub version of MadNox may cause issues so be very careful and follow the previous instructions)

i just want to say a realy big thx to mikesilvo - a lot of other skinner would say " pffff screw this old codet thing and use my version " - and i wouldnt blame them for it
and i would realy like to use mikesilvos mod when madnox cant be used anymore - but when you like this old skin so much, its hard to change, and tbh - i realy dont like the nox5 BONE ...
it makes me realy happy and proud to see, that he spend his time to help us to keep this good old peace of skin alive
i think our small fanbase here cant thank you enough for your help the help of you mikesilvo, and the comunity here is the only reason, why mike_doc and i wont quit
( Mike_doc have a lot of private work atm ... and after his situation he needs all the time he wants
) so again - BIG THX to all of you
(PS. first test with MikeS feels a bit smoother and no freeze ... but tested just a cpl of minutes and without any addons... but i have a good feeling )

Funny that I got no freezes, out of the usual normal ones i've always had in Kodi, this is, something like one each week of daily usage. In fact I was coming to see if someone was having problems in the music now playing screen with the artist images not showing up, or music extended info not displaying, but seeing how busy u are guys, and since it is not a big deal, I will wait and shut up, lol
Wish u good luck Schimi2k, with this matter, cos, as u, this is the skin I like the most.

after one hour of testing ...
first version of mikeS version - still a lot of random freezes ( always in a main menu based areas - main menu OR main menu settings )
minimal madnox version - same as first version
tried first without any addon like i leave it yesterday, and even then it freezes - so i installed all realy needed addons - and still freeze
it seems that a huge repairing of the code is needed ... but i dont know if mike_doc will have the time and motivation to start with it, and my coding "skills" are not present, and tbh... i spend already so much time to find my "white whale" ... i dont know...
i will take some break now and maybe check again this evening
damn...

This looks like bad news, very bad news.
But I have to tell you guys... If this feels like a big burden to you and is no fun at all anymore maybe the time has come. I hate to say this, I don't want this skin to die but life and health comes first.
So far all of u dedicated so much time into this project and I very much appreciate it. I think we all do and I think no one would be angry if you should decide that way. We all would be devastated though, because that would mean one of the most advanced skins is going to be buried but thats only one side of the coin. Usually something good is coming up when you turn the coin over...
Sorry for being a bit sentimental, I just felt like telling you this to release at bit of pressure sitting on your shoulders.
I still think we should at least wait for the first release candidate of Kodi 16 before throwing it away!

P.S.: Just had a freeze while typing here. I rarely get them anyways but for me it seems like they only occur when Kodi was idle for some time...
