it's ok, just asking questions in the correct forum/thread helps you get an answer more quickly, and helps keep this thread on topic.

I hope that I am posting to the correct thread.

My question is, I just set up my HP Chromebox as a standalone with openelec because I couldn't get the dualboot to work, but now as I set up xbmc I find that I have to be connected to Ethernet cable with no way of finding where I can switch to Wi-Fi. Is this even an option? I am doing this to have TV in a room that I can't run a Ethernet cable. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have the ASUS CHROMEBOX-M004U version and it can play 1080P 8bit encoded videos with no issues at all. I dual boot Xubuntu and OpenELEC with no issues at all as well. I got the non-4K version because I don't see 4K being something to care about for 2 to 3 years from now.

the celeron 2955U model w/2GB ram is sufficient for all h.264 content, up to 4K/24p. You might want 4GB ram for Ubuntu but easy enough to add after the fact.

System-->OpenELEC-->Network (enable wireless conections)
System-->OpenELEC-->Connections (connect to AP)

Thank you Matt I never would have thought of going into that area, Guess ii am to used to XBMC for windows, As a side note I would like to say thank you for the work you have done on installing openelec on chrome. Even though I was not able to get dualboot to work the standalone was very easy and is working great so far.

I had the same question, and got the Celeron version, and am 100% happy with it. Love the Chromebox idea so much I got a bigger M.2 SSD, and more ram, so I can play with the Linux OS.

However, I run a standalone OpenELEC version, but would love to add a dual boot with some Ubuntu variant install, once I get a bigger SSD. Human_USB, could you give me some pointers as to how to achieve dual boot with OpenELEC and Ubuntu? I am not a Linux expert, but I am hoping the Ubuntu install will give me an option to install the Grub boot manager, and repartition the drive? Thanks for any help!

I can resume from any movie using Confluence, Aeon Nox and Aeon MQ5. This has not been a problem ever for me on the Chromebox in either OE 4.2 or 4.97.

depends on your definition of easy. I'd boot a PartedMagic USB stick, then use the included tools to delete/resize as needed. You'll also likely need to mark the remaining partition as active/bootable.

Worked like a charm, thanks!

Can you use 2gb and 4gb ram together?

newbie question here, got the Asus CB on black friday from amazon
played with it a bit, removed the write protection and installed stand alone OE
it was running nicely for a few days (connected to sammy tv via hdmi)

took it today to work to show it to some guys that were interested in buying it too, connected to some monitors with DP
i can only see the seabios screen and nothing further, tried to install some linux distros but i can see only the install splash screen booting and nothing further again
parted magic working well and seems that hd and ram are ok

any ideas?

no, but I can verify that DisplayPort works correctly here on my Dell 2408WFP. Assume you've tried more than one cable/monitor?

Howdy,

I used this http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=Manual_Installation_-_multi_boot and it worked out great. You will have to not do the auto-disk setup, and do it manually. OpenELEC does not need much..... 1GB in total is more than enough. 256MB for the OE_SYSTEM and the rest for OE_DATA.
