HDA Intel PCH, ALC283 Analog

Openelec does not seem to be recognizing it.

remove the USB device, reboot, the reconnect it. ssh to the box (via Putty, login/pass is root/openelec), then run the following commands:

Code:
dmesg | pastebinit
lsusb -vv | pastebinit

post the resulting URLs

I'm starting to wonder if there is something physically wrong with it. I tried connecting it to 2 different PCs and both got a USB power surge error.

it's not being detected at all, and based on your test above, I'd suspect either an error with the hardware itself and/or the USB connector

it's one of the options in the dual boot section of the script. Set it back to 30s + chromeOS default, then use [CTRL-L] on the dev boot screen to boot OpenELEC (assuming you have performed the dual boot/OE setup to completion since doing the factory reset).

Thank you! I got it all figured out. As I suspected I it was something stupid, I didn't know the command to enter Kodi. lol. Now my powerline adapter decided to slow down to a crawl. If it's not one thing it's another!

Hello all! This is my first post here. Trying to get into chromebox and xbmc. I have a question though. Will this asus chromebox run xbmc? Have asus changed something that prevents me from running ubuntu+kodi on this since the guide in the OP was written or is it safe to buy it, diasble write-protect etc and install kodi? Thanks very much for all the help!

PS: DO i need this box in order to play 4k video in xbmc or a cheaper on from the same asus line would do?

this guide was updated less than two weeks ago (as per the subject line), nothing significant has changed since then Smile

the 2955u is the cheapest model in the line, and it will output h.264 4K@24/30Hz no problem.

Thanks so much for the quick reply! Also something else. Is there any specific hardware i need in order for xbmc to passthrough DTS-MA and Dolby Digital TrueHD? Or is it a software limitation? Thanks again.

Just have to connected it to a device that can handle those signals and make sure passthrough is on. Just works unlike in the Android world.

Beautifully in OE. I used to use Dual boot but now only single boot OE and I love it. And pick any skin you like they won't slow you down.

Hi.
I am stuck at "Booting from Hard Disk"

I followed the instructions for a standalone setup and everything went fine. Seabios is installed and write protect screw is out of the device.
Now I would like to install Ubuntu from usb. I tried 2 different sticks but if I press Esc nothing happens. After 5 sec I only get the message "Booting from Hard Disk" and thats it.

I read that there is a bug in Seabios that prevents the device from booting from usb? Is this bug already solved?

The replacement BIOS that gets installed when you install the Standalone install has the USB bug fixed. I've had few problems booting from USB install sticks to install Ubuntu or OpenElec once I've installed it.

DTS HD/Dolby True HD easier in OE than Ubuntu (where you can end up with PulseAudio issues to sort).

24p works just fine. Not noticed any AV errors - but don't watch huge amounts of 24p content.
