I've used the scripts and everything seems to have gone through fine, but when I try and boot Ubuntu all I get is a black screen. I've tried two different TVs thinking maybe it was a display issue, but both had the same black screen.

I set it to install 14.10 and Ubuntu desktop. I've also tried running the script the second time twice and get the same problem.

Any advice?

I'll look into this, possible some of the changes I made in 3.5 broke something but I tested it before release.

As easy as every other update. Download tar. Shift to .update/ on htpc. Reboot.

Lost me there? Not sure how you do this.

In OE/Kodi, just go to "Programs", select "OpenELEC Configuration", then "Check for Updates".

Read the reply from Frisch. He is a developer and knows. Usually you can SFTP to the Chromebox via an FPT app that supports the protocol. .update folder is inside the /Storage, and you need to extract the 4 files from the TAR archive, and copy them over. When restarting, the system updates itself.

But you should not do it transitioning to KODI, as there are lot of changes. The best way to do it is to make a bootable OpenELEC USB stick, boot from it, do a quick install. If you want the old setup and folders and all, including addons, do an OpenELEC backup, make sure to COPY that file from the backup folder in storage to your computer. After installing Kodi, you can restore the backup. Frisch, is that correct? Or do you mean something else by doing a database export and import?

Great work guys! Thanks a lot. Fun over the Holliday season Smile

There won't be an auto upgrade, cause of this.

Fritsch, I would like to use your advice and do a fresh install. However I selected quick boot when I set my box up a few months ago. I have put openelec 5.0 on a USB stick, but I can't figure out how to boot from USB instead of off the HD.

it won't auto-update from 4.2.1 (stable) to 5.0 (stable) because of all the XBMC->Kodi changes significantly increase the potential for breakage

no, he meant using the video library import/export functions under the video library settings. What you described is no different than doing an in-place upgrade.

you hit ESC, then 2 at the SeaBIOS boot menu, same as you did for the original install.

I am obviously not fritsch but try this:

Put the 5.0 tar file into /storage/.update/
reboot
hard reset.

Should be the same as a fresh install, but without having to boot from usb.

Question, I have 3 ASUS Chromebox and hey r amazing running stand alone Openelec XBMC. I just got 3 PS3 remotes to control them, I see if I suspend the box and press the directional pad it will wake it. Is there anyway to power the box on or off with the PS3 remote? Is there any other way to configure the remote or is the default the way to go?

Thanks

Thanks that worked perfect, and was very easy. I did not see a + button, probably cause I am new, but I wanted to post and say thank you.

Yeah you need 10 posts (or maybe 20) before you get access to the plus button. But don't worry, your thanks are more than sufficient and I am glad it worked.

i am on standalone openelec kodi rc3 on chromebox.
my main screen is little bit overscan that on the right corner where the time is, it is half visible and half hidden.
how do you overscan and underscan?
i saw one option to caliborate videos but how about main screen ?

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.6 - 2014/12/28] - nickr - 2014-12-29

Overscan and underscan is set on your TV, not in KODI. The setting is called different things by different manufacturers. LG is "Just Scan" - so what sort of TV are we talking?

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.6 - 2014/12/28] - Matt Devo - 2014-12-29

but if your display has non-defeatable overscan (some older ones do, most current ones do not), then you can adjust in System/Video Output/Video Calibration. That affects all video output (so, the GUI too), not just video playback
