Quote:the ChromeBox is making a commentary on your content selection, and trying to save you from yourself.

seriously though, why are you using 'Bob' deinterlacing? It should be set to either motion assisted or motion compensated

I knew someone would make a comment on that! I chose that clip cause it really showed the problem. (Yes that show is one of my guilty pleasures).

I will try your suggestion when I get home tonight.

in both videos, there is no other boot device connected, so the difference isn't relevant. Update the legacy BIOS as I have instructed twice now, then connect your other boot device, and see/record what happens.

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.8 - 2015/01/07] - wackid - 2015-01-09

Yes that's correct on both devices no external Hdd. It was just to show both are different boot screen. No seaboot text and your name visible on the Asus

I updated the bios and it said it was not necessary. And off course still no difference.

So it's normaal they both have different boot screens?

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.8 - 2015/01/07] - Matt Devo - 2015-01-09

it's just a small difference in the handshaking between the box and TV, and how quickly it can set/change video modes/resolutions; I don't see it as indicative of a problem at all. With another boot device connected, you should see the SeaBIOS boot screen on the Asus as well, since it will give you 5s to press ESC, which should be enough time for the TV to set the video mode.

I found the problem!! Or its getting worse Rolleyes

After updating the bios on the HP multiple boot isn't working anymore and now also the white developer screen.

So it has something to do with new bios...

Can I revert back somehow?

"isn't working anymore" and "also the white developer screen" don't tell me shit, you need to better communicate what the problem/symptoms are. As I said before, the white developer boot screen is the first thing you should see on any dual boot setup. If the problem is that you're not seeing the SeaBIOS boot screen / don't have the chance to select the boot device, then say that.

If the HP was working and had a different version string / datestamp than the latest/current, that would have been useful to know before you updated it.

we can troubleshoot this, but I need you to hop on the OpenELEC IRC chat so I can walk you thru getting me some debug info

Yes i am sorry i mean the black SeaBIOS boot screen on the HP is gone and its now the White developer screen.
So now i can not boot Windows on the HP with external HDD. Bassicly its the same machine as the Asus.

The time stamp for the Seabios on the HP was 20141218. Luckily i could read it from the video.

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.8 - 2015/01/07] - Matt Devo - 2015-01-09

turns out it was an error with the 20150107 SeaBIOS file, which is now fixed. Dual boot users who are having issues with the SeaBIOS screen not showing can simply re-run the script and update the Legacy BIOS (option 4).

edit: searching this thread, someone said you don't need to uninstall pulseaudio, just install pavucontrol and configure it

Matt, you were right once again! Sorry I'm just now getting back to you but for anyone trying to get HD audio from their Intel Celeron HP Chromebox running Ubuntu (thanks to Matt's script) by doing passthrough to their receiver, follow these simple steps:
1. Run the following: "sudo apt-get autoremove pulseaudio"
2. Run the following: "sudo apt-get install gnome-alsamixer"
3. Reboot
4. Launch Kodi with the following: "AE_SINK=ALSA kodi" (this may not be necessary. May work by launching as normal)
5. Kodi should now see your receiver in the audio settings. Make sure the receiver is selected as well enabling passthrough and that your receiver is the passthrough device.
NOTE - This will remove all sound from your system which is not coming from Kodi and being passed to the receiver. I DO NOT recommend this unless your Chromebox is a dedicated HTPC. There may be ways to jump back and forth between pulse and alsa but as I did not have a need for that I didn't explore it.

HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE ELSE! I spent days trying to get DTS and TrueHD on my Chromebox!!

Hi Matt. I'm having some trouble getting back to command prompt to redo the openELEC script after doing a factory recovery for the ChromeOS. My keyboard no longer works when pressing CTRL+D in order to get back into recovery mode. I'm also dual booting straight into openELEC so I can't even get into the ChromeOS. When I try to press esc for the boot menu, the keyboard doesn't pick it up. I've tried 4 different keyboards and none are working.

if your keyboard worked before for [CTRL-D], then your timing is wrong - it needs to be before the black legacy BIOS screen. Pressing ESC for the boot menu isn't going to work since your restored the broken stock legacy BIOS. Even if it did, it wouldn't help you boot ChromeOS, which is what you need to do.

Excellent that worked perfectly. Thanks so much!

Does anyone else find that when starting or restarting the box it sometimes doesn't pick up the TV / Movies from an SMB source? It picks up the Mediaportal PVR but TV/Movies are not shown like the server was not turned on when restarting the chromebox. It takes 5-6 restarts sometimes for the TV / Movies to show up on the homescreen.

Try delaying kodi's startup until network is up. There is a specific setting for this on openelec.
