I´m still on 2.20 (I think) and it just works flawlessly!
The device is incredibly stable Big Grin

I might update to 3.8 in the weekend, just because it's possible Tongue

if it ain't broke...

I'm going to install my chrome box mu004U.

Before I start I have a doubt about the user data folder.

Should I use an sd card to put the userdata folder? In my old xios it was the recommended setup...

My current setup includes a mysql database. In the advanced setting file I'm using special folder for thumbnails and for sources.xml (point to the disk where the videos are).

Thanks.

no, keeping everything on internal storage is fine / the correct way to do it

I first updated the coreboot firmware as instructed on page 1 using ssh:
curl -L -O http://goo.gl/HSZer4
bash HSZer4

I now tried to run the script again using ssh by typing:
curl -L -O http://goo.gl/3Tfu5W
sudo bash 3Tfu5W

And i'm getting:
line 37: syntax error: unexpected "("

What should i do?

^^This. The script 1) doesn't run under OpenELEC, and 2) doesn't install Kodibuntu - you do that via USB install media like you would on any other PC

after spending the last 3 days reading, a chrome box sounds like the perfect fit for me.
it is a bit more money than i planed but should be worth it.

i only plan to run kodi and a web browser (firefox preferably) on the box. we subscribe to hrtv.com so a web browser is a must.

this will replace my 2009 mac mini as my primary kodi system.

based on my research this is my plan forward:

hp Chrome box or asus chrome box with 4gigs ram which ever is on sale when ready to buy.

run kodibuntu as single boot

use my iPhone app as a remote using ubuntu VNC server. we have used this for the past 2 years on my mac mini and my wife is finally comfortable with it. no need to change i think?

i plan to use my mac mini as a a media server. i still have some reading to do here but MySQL sounds like the way to go.

the mac will also be used to record OTA tv with the eyetv HD we have and serve the recordings to the eyetv parser add-on in kodi. we never watch live so i think this will work for us.

how does this sound to you? am i on the right track?
any further recommendations and corrections would be greatly appreciated.

thank you Matt Devo and everyone else for the amazing info here. i would not even attempt this with out your generous guidance.

thanks again

I don't have any quarrels with your proposed approach

I know i can go to the OpenElec forum and ask this question, but i don't see anybody having these issue out there.
This is a problem related with chromebox and OpecElec.

no, it's not, as per the thread rules at the top of the first post. Nor is the question you asked in any way answerable due to the complete lack of info you provided. If you're referring to the Intel GPU hang which required the use of the 'Use SW Filter' option, that issue was fixed in 5.0.0 as per the release notes and wiki content (and many pages of info in this thread).

Thanks. My issue was that I'd copied the iso onto a usb stick when i should have created a bootable usb from the iso.

I'm using Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.5.8 to create the bootable usb - is there another program that I should be using instead?

no, that'll work

pretty much any ISO image. OpenELEC comes with its own installer (.tar version), or requires use of an image writer (.img version); you shouldn't use UUI for that

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.8 - 2015/01/07] - Matt Devo - 2015-01-13

what are your audio output settings?, both regular and passthru?

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.8 - 2015/01/07] - Peaf - 2015-01-13

I have tried a lot of them.

The chromebox is connect to an LG TV and the the LG Tv is connected to a SONY audio receive trough and optical cable.

The audio output device is HDA Intel, GSM LG TV o HDMI 0. I also selectec Audio passthrough using the sane device.

The other devices I can choose are: HDA Intel HDMI 1, HDA Intel HDMI2 and HDA Intel PCH, AL C283 Analgo (for the output device).

I manage to have sound on the tv but is not passing to the sony receiver....

that's a different problem altogether (and really OT for this thread). Most TVs will not pass anything other than 2-ch PCM via their digital output when using an external source. Your best bet is likely to use a USB SPDIF adapter with the ChromeBox and connect it directly to your receiver.

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.8 - 2015/01/07] - Peaf - 2015-01-13

Ok...

But In my old xios i was able to pass the sound and have no issue with this.

I have tried almost every configuration and no sound. I don't mind to have 2-ch PCM sound but even this I can not get....

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.8 - 2015/01/07] - Matt Devo - 2015-01-13

set it to 2-ch and disable passthru I guess? Might need to restrict the output sample rate as well since it seems like your TV is reporting that it supports more formats than it actually does.

64. Any Kodibuntu related question belong in the Linux and Live Support forum though, not here.
