RE: [obsolete - now in nightlies] Build - Dolby Vision compatibility/quality improvements - firstofthewinterale - 2024-05-29 Thanks again for responding. I do understand "Kodi doesn't have a mechanism to prioritize HDR formats." That's why my original post thanked you for your consideration of it as a request. Is there any reason such a mechanism couldn't be added? It would also help people who want Kodi to prioritize HDR 10+ over DoVi. As for why some occasional hybrid videos containing DoVi instead default to HDR 10/10+ on Kodi, I won't be able to post a log until I next encounter it again. I have logging disabled trying to avoid the TV's eMMC getting worn out prematurely since I tend to keep a TV for a very long time before replacing it. Anyway, thanks again for your time and consideration. And the code is not designed to do it. RE: [obsolete - now in nightlies] Build - Dolby Vision compatibility/quality improvements - fritsch - 2024-05-29 For Sony: https://jenkins.kodi.tv/job/android-arm-docker/6741/artifact/kodi-20240529-e25b9b88-sony-armeabi-v7a.apk ... this build is more than the user support of this great company offering their TVs for more than 1000 dollars ... awesome. I think the most easy solution is building a sony build for those 5 to 6 users left using these TVs from 5+ years ago. RE: [obsolete - now in nightlies] Build - Dolby Vision compatibility/quality improvements - kricker - 2024-05-29 Thank you. I'll give this build a go. I believe there are more Sony TV users out their than one might expect. I am one of 4 I know of. We bought them because at the time they offered all the best features and a clean running Android TV without needing any extra hardware. Other than this issue that none could foresee, the TVs still look and work great. I'd rather not be buying a new TV every few years and generate more e-waste because the manufacturer no longer supports it. Is there any way to make this an advanced setting to enable or disable how the HDR is handled, or is this a way more complicated issue than I can comprehend? I made the base work, but then had no time to debug it further, call is succesful, but does not work for your device ... feel free to pick it up. You could try the other way round - keep it transparent and then simply set it to black to unblock the "other some million" devices out there that get broken by this Sony behaviour ...(2024-05-29, 14:38)fritsch Wrote: For Sony: https://jenkins.kodi.tv/job/android-arm-docker/6741/artifact/kodi-20240529-e25b9b88-sony-armeabi-v7a.apk ... this build is more than the user support of this great company offering their TVs for more than 1000 dollars ... awesome. RE: [obsolete - now in nightlies] Build - Dolby Vision compatibility/quality improvements - kricker - 2024-05-29 Understood. I guess it's just one of those things where items become defunct and progress moves forward. RE: [obsolete - now in nightlies] Build - Dolby Vision compatibility/quality improvements - quietvoid - 2024-05-29 I've been meaning to try fixing fritsch's work, it should definitely be possible through an advanced setting. It won't fix Sony's firmware. Consider not buying their TVs next time ... RE: [obsolete - now in nightlies] Build - Dolby Vision compatibility/quality improvements - kricker - 2024-06-01 I just did a quick test and it works great. My son can now watch his HDR content without having to turn off the HDR on the TV and then have to turn it back on when he plays PS5. Very much appreciated that you took the time to create the build and post it! RE: [obsolete - now in nightlies] Build - Dolby Vision compatibility/quality improvements - quietvoid - 2024-06-02 Here's the advanced setting version of the workaround: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/issues/25166#issuecomment-2144021198 I need Sony TV users to test if it works. RE: [obsolete - now in nightlies] Build - Dolby Vision compatibility/quality improvements - kkkk_system - 2024-06-19 @quietvoid for some reason setting to select HDR10, HDR10+ or Dolby Vision is absent on the latest master build from here https://mirrors.kodi.tv/nightlies/android/arm/master/kodi-20240616-74b6dd90-master-armeabi-v7a.apk
Added setting to choose between HDR10, HDR10+ or Dolby Vision playback. Upstream pull request: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/24584 Now merged.
If I install Kodi Omega release (v21.0) on my Sony KD-65AF8 I can see the setting and disable there Dolby Vision (but get greybard of course) but in the latest master build the setting seems to be absent for some reason which is weird. Maybe you could look into it, the setting though is applied on the latest nightly release (if I upgrade from Kodi Omega v21.0 release). RE: [obsolete - now in nightlies] Build - Dolby Vision compatibility/quality improvements - quietvoid - 2024-06-19 Yes it's broken because this was merged with the same setting label IDs: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/24564 Open an issue. |
