Benchmark results seem to be much better with 3600 by a (more or less) moderate price difference. Do the more cores need better cooling or is the 65W the only variable to worry about? - bluray - 2012-01-25 malte Wrote:Dumb question: Is there any difference between A6-3500 and A-3600 besides number of cores, price and availability? As far as playback, it should be identical because it have the same HD6530D in it! - eskro - 2012-01-25 bluray Wrote:For HTPC, A6-3500 should be fine not should! it is fine!!! A6-3500 FTW!!!!!!!! - bluray - 2012-01-25 eskro Wrote:not should! If it is a couple bucks different, A6-3600 is the best choice. That 1 extra core and 1 MB L2 cache might come in handy when encoding BD! - eskro - 2012-01-26 the A6-3600 is around ~ $33 more - jamesk9 - 2012-01-26 A little confused on the build.. I thought the parts in post one would fit in the recommended case from post one (the apex MI008). The included power supply cant be installed with the stock CPU cooler I assumed that since the Scythe fan was not included in the build list (like in the A8 build), that the stock cooler would suffice. Is the Scythe SCKZT-1000 cooler shorter than the stock AMD cooler? Thanks for all the info BluRay, Eskro and the rest of the comunity.. I'm real close to having me an xbmc screamer. - jamesk9 - 2012-01-26 Answered my own question.. On newegg the dimensions are 40mm or 1.6 inches tall and the stock cooler is about 2 inches or 48mm. Im still concerned that about 50% of the heatsink will be covered by the PSU. - eskro - 2012-01-26 if it wouldnt fit, i wouldnt be in my htpc guide - mtftw - 2012-01-26 Huh I can't seem to get the stock cooler on my 3670k to fit underneath the MI 008 PSU either.... - mtftw - 2012-01-26 I was thinking about taking the fan off the heatsink but that seems like a great way to fry this APU - mtftw - 2012-01-26 Well, turns out I can get it under the psu if I pull back on the PSU a bit...it's actually touching the heatsink now but that doesn't really matter I spose - eskro - 2012-01-26 i never said that the stock A8 coolers fit in the MI-008 - mtftw - 2012-01-26 The 3670 is an A6...does it come with an A8 cooler? - eskro - 2012-01-26 all 100W TDP AMD APU's wont fit in the MI-008... - mtftw - 2012-01-26 And today I learned something...time to find a lo pro cooler |
