RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/05/17] - Matt Devo - 2015-06-02 (2015-06-02, 01:30)knives of ice Wrote: the adaptor appears to work just fine but i'm going nuts because for some reason i get this wavy part of the picture that will appear randomly on my tv upstairs. i'm not sure how to describe it other than picture interference that goes down the screen randomly every few minutes when trying to watch something. i had this problem with the first adaptor which made me think must be a crappy adaptor so i bought a 2nd one and i still get the same thing. the other problem is the adaptor will not work with any 7.1 dts-hd surround sound. for audio output, Kodi can only output one type at a time, so are you sure that the DP/HDMI output is selected? Not sure on the waviness issue, since I use a straight DP cable. Have you tried googling? You can't use the standard OpenELEC installer with the stock firmware, only with my custom firmware, due to a compatibility issue with the syslinux 6.x bootlaoder. Since you've already done a standalone setup, you're running my firmware and need to do nothing else, just download/install OpenELEC. 2) the firmware (aka BIOS) and OpenELEC (OS + Kodi) are completely separate/indepenedent; my firmware allows you to run the standard x86_64 version of OpenELEC (or any other OS) 3) n/a RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/05/17] - Matt Devo - 2015-06-02 (2015-06-01, 18:38)Tigerman82 Wrote:(2015-06-01, 18:23)amcfarla Wrote: New Asus chromeboxes were announced today with Broadwell processor update, hopefully this method works on these new devices: The Acer model is available from Newegg currently for $119 AC, which is a pretty good deal. I'd expect $100-$120 to be the new norm for Haswell ChromeBoxes as Broadwell boxes are announced/released RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/05/17] - knives of ice - 2015-06-02 matt for displayport i just select DP1 right? that is definitely selected. i don't get the output waviness issue that occurs randomly. i thought perhaps it could be a settings issue. the audio, that is only being outputted to one device and i have to go in and select/change the audio. with displayport all audio outputs work no problem for regular DTS/Dolby but it seems the displayport cable will not pass on and HD audio options, switch to hdmi and it is no problem. the audio i can live with because my receiver upstairs doesn't support hd audio anyways, so i can use that with the DP adaptor and the hdmi output to downstairs. but the waviness on the picture that occurs randomly drives me nuts. i began to think it could be some type of interference with bad shielding on the adaptor or if there was a certain setting i may need to change. i'm not even trying to output sound or video to both displays at once, one is always shut off when the other is in use. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/05/17] - Matt Devo - 2015-06-02 (2015-06-02, 07:21)knives of ice Wrote: matt I haven't used DP for audio and don't have a HDMI/HD audio capable receiver, so I can't speak to that unfortunately - sorry =( RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/05/17] - knives of ice - 2015-06-02 ok, not sure why but for some reason the acceleration settings seem to be the problem. i am playing back full resolution mkv files ripped from bluray. i had my video accelaration settings set to match the wiki, but if i turn everything off except use VC-1 vaapi my wavy lines go away. i wonder if i should turn on any of the other acceleration selections or just keep vc-1 as the only one selected. no idea why this works or what my settings should actually be for best results. EDIT - spoke too soon again. my goodness i'm ready to pull my hair out. the vc-1 only solution was working with hdmi only plugged in so i figured if i went back to displayport it would be gone as well. nope its there with displayport. i'm stumped. going to have to go downstairs and watch the same video clips and see if the waviness is down there as well. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/06/02] - knives of ice - 2015-06-03 ok, here is a short 30 second video to show people the problem i am having with my displayport adapter. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6zBYWywXsAdRXlhQWd4RWFobWs/view?usp=sharing does anyone have any ideas of what the problem could be? i've tried everything i can think of changing the refresh rates and acceleration settings. most of the time it isn't as bad as is displayed in the video but i wanted it to be bad so people could see what is going on. any ideas of things to try? my hdmi switch idea is no good either as i need 2 outputs from it. an hdmi splitter works to give me pictures on both tv's but even changing the sound settings doesn't work to get me sound downstairs. not sure what to try at this point. They're for OE 5.x, I'll wait until 6.x hits RC to update. The video playback settings are accessed via the OSD menu while a video is being played, but shouldn't have any effect on what you're seeing. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/06/02] - knives of ice - 2015-06-03 (2015-06-03, 04:41)Matt Devo Wrote:(2015-06-03, 04:22)knives of ice Wrote: that did nothing to help unfortunately. i changed the settings, rebooted and no help. ahh...ok. didn't realize there were more video settings while the video was playing. yep make no difference after changing those. there just must be something messed up when you use a displayport adaptor? i have no idea. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/06/02] - knives of ice - 2015-06-03 wow, ok i finally found a fix. believe it or not, if you set the monitor display output to HDMI 1, even though you are outputting via Displayport - the problem is completely fixed. i kept thinking why is the picture fine on hdmi and i for the first time i kept both displays on and could see even if you have no sound on the displayport display the video was exactly the same as what was happening downstairs. while the downstairs playback was totally fine, the upstairs was as while. so, for displayport output to work all i need to do is keep it as hdmi 1 monitor all the time, but switch my audio out settings depending on where i am viewing. i have no idea why this makes a difference but it does for my setup. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/06/02] - Soli - 2015-06-03 Hi Matt. Regarding what we've talked about before: Could you detail how to extract the vpd from a running standalone bios and inject said vpd into an existing bios/firmware backup file? I want to convert from standalone to dual boot without losing my unique device information (that is vital to receive ChromeOS updates among other things?) I only created a backup bios for one of my 2 HPs, as the wiki didn't make it clear that there were unique device information embedded in the bios. Edit: Oh and I guess I need to extract the GBB too, since that is where the HWID is located? I found this post: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=194362&pid=1745897#pid1745897 Could you verify this works, and that it should work from Kodibuntu? I'm no stranger to messing around, but I just want to be 100% sure that I don't brick the Chromebox. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/06/02] - Matt Devo - 2015-06-03 (2015-06-03, 10:43)Soli Wrote: Hi Matt. Regarding what we've talked about before: that's similar to what you'll need to do, but not the same. you don't need to restore the GBB, just the VPD. I'll PM you with instructions and update the wiki/OP with a note that user should always backup the firmware because of the embedded MAC. |
