For those of you who followed the release of the Fire TV more closely than I did, do you remember how long we had to wait after the announcement of the device to begin seeing reviews written by people who had an opportunity to try them out?

I'm wondering if anybody has an idea how long it will be before somebody (developers, tinkerers, authors) gets their hands on one and can give us legit information regarding capabilities of the device, possibility of sideloading, etc. Do you think we'll see reviews in the next couple of weeks or what?

RE: fire tv stick - LazerBlue - 2014-10-29

If i remember correctly, the Fire TV was available the same day it was announced so I think the reviews started coming in the next day.

RE: fire tv stick - z31fanatic - 2014-10-30

Yeah, there was no preordering period for the FTV. Amazon started selling it the day that they announced it.

RE: fire tv stick - ilovemymac - 2014-11-06

Found out its a 1Ghz processor dual core in it. I am not an android user other then my fire tv so i can't say but we have had other dual core boxes running XBMC/Kodi so i would assume we could do the same here with this
It is a different dual core processor but but someone said there is another android device that runs it. but at 1.2ghz

RE: fire tv stick - lbotez - 2014-11-07

If it's fast enough to run Amazon prime videos, it should work fine with Kodi.

I already posted this on the first page here:

Other than having lower performance Amazon claim that Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick will work exactly the same:

"All supported technologies are the same for Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick"

https://developer.amazon.com/public/solutions/devices/fire-tv/docs/media-specifications

Fire TV Stick uses a Broadcom BCM28155 (Capri) SoC with Dual-Core CPU with Broadcom VideoCore 4 GPU/VPU.

Broadcom Capri 28155 in this Amazon Fire TV Stick have Dual-Core ARM Cortex A9 processors running at 1.0 GHz.
(This is same SoC used in Samsung Galaxy S II Plus, Galaxy Fame, and Galaxy Grand that can go as high as 1.3 GHz).

Broadcom VideoCore IV ( VC4 / VideoCore 4 ) GPU and VPU offload engine is the exact same used by Raspberry Pi.

Fire TV Stick stick has 8GB of internal storage

1GB of RAM memory (512MB system and 512MB video) Dual-Channel LPDDR2 400MHz Memory Controller

802.11g/n Dual-Band (2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz) WiFi with dual-antenna MIMO is supported

Bluetooth 4.0

Amazon FireOS 3.0; Based on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean), API Level 17
Amazon looks to have updated their website since too with more details:
https://developer.amazon.com/public/solutions/devices/fire-tv/docs/device-and-platform-specifications

In any case there is no question that XBMC/Kodi can't be installed as long it allows side-loading or can be rooted.

RE: fire tv stick - essential - 2014-11-17

I just looked at my Amazon order. I ordered on the 27th (release day) at noon. My delivery date is Dec 3rd?? Anyone else order on early release day and have a late shipping date?

RE: fire tv stick - Hitcher - 2014-11-17

I think read that not long after it was available for pre-order due to the high demand.

A lot of people ordered on the first day and have delivery dates into December and some into January. I ordered immediately and got 11/19, my co-worker ordered a little later in the day and has 12/3.

RE: fire tv stick - LazerBlue - 2014-11-17

I ordered around 5 pm and I have December 17. I see it as a chance for others to get the bugs worked out before I get mine.

Ordered at 1pm Eastern time on release day and I have the same Dec 3rd delivery date.

My guess is that the first batch had a delivery date of Nov 19th and the second was Dec 3rd. According to LazerBlue it seems the third batch is due Dec 17th, all Wednesdays, two weeks apart. Amazon might be getting deliveries from their OEM every other week on a Wednesday.

Best Buy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/amazon-fire-tv-stick/9999119.p?id=1219460752591&skuId=9999119

Staples: http://www.staples.com/fire+tv+stick/directory_fire+tv+stick

Neither site states when they will be released.

Tongue he's telling. . . in disbelief. As in "can you believe it's so late? Is there something wrong?"
