My LibreELEC install (Millhouse builds) is all backed up so not bothered if things get wiped, is there a best way to go about this please?

I am thinking I create a Linux USB stick and run the firmware updater from that then install LibreELEC using there install creator and update to Millhouse build as normal, does that sound about right?

sounds good to me. I'b probably stick with the 7.90.009 version, as I expect 7.90.010 and 7.95.001 aren't far off

Everything went without a hitch, now rocking the latest UEFI firmware and the latest build from Millhouse.

Many thanks Matt and Seasons Greetings to everyone.

Hi Matt,

I have been using the Chromebox with Openelec from your installer for a very long time, but having recently played around with it trying to move from Openelec to LibreElec I seem to have broken a few bits. (What's that saying, if it ain't broke...) I wondered what the best route is to do a full clean fresh install? It's a full Kodi Openelec only box at the minute, no dual boot etc.

Should I go back, flash the coreboot again and do a fresh USB installer of Openelec/LibreELEC? I was going to use Openelec as I'm toying with the idea of setting up a TVHeadend backend & frontend on the Chromebox with the help of a Digibit R1 box. I have started to look into this and it looks like Openelec comes with TVHeadend backend installed, does LibreELEC?

Any experience using the chromebox for TVHeadend backend & frontend?

Thanks in advance.
Paul

I'd boot a GalliumOS ISO, install my latest UEFI Firmware, then do a clean install of LE 7.90.009 (Kodi 17). LE comes with TVH client for sure, and I'd assume backend as well; I only use the front end on my setup as i have the back end on my NAS.

Thanks Matt,

To confirm I have things in the right order, as I can follow Linux commands via instruction but that's about it;

1. Download the Haswell GalliumOS (HP Chromebox) and save to a bootable USB stick. Reboot Chromebox and install GalliumOS from the ISO onto the Chromebox. (On the Gallium ISO Wiki it only mentions installing from ISO, not booting from ISO)

2. This will give me a linux environment installed on the Chromebox. Install the latest firmware by opening a terminal and pasting:
Code:
cd; curl -L -O http://mrchromebox.tech/firmware-util.sh && sudo bash firmware-util.sh

3. Reboot the Chromebox with a new LibreELEC USB stick in place to install LibreELEC and replace the GalliumOS.

All sound ok?

I was hesitant with moving to Kodi 17 due to lack of some skins being moved over etc. but if it's 'stable' enough I'll do this for a clean and fresh install.

Thanks again Matt.

There's no need to install GalliumOS -- when you boot the USB, it boots into a live environment from which you can install (or not); you just need to run the script from there.

You need to write the ISO to USB using a tool like Rufus (on Windows) or Etcher (multi-platform), you can't simply save/copy the ISO to USB.

@ Matt,

Sorry for the late reply. I can confirm that your UEFI firmware did in fact work on 4K TV. I tested it tonight on a Samsung 6500 curved UHD TV and the Chromebox with LibreElec booted without a problem. Big Grin

Thanks again and awesome work!!

Merry Christmas and hope you're able to enjoy your 4K TV as well.

I have a 6500 Samsung UHD as well and use a M004U Chromebox in standalone mode with LE. I have 4k handshaking issues sometimes that I've tried to mitigate with an autostart.sh forcing 1080p, but still gives issues sometimes (TV and Chromebox handshake a 2160p connection per xrandr but screen is blank). Did you have to do anything to get this working? Is your connection at 2160p or 1080p? I'm thinking of making a live boot of GalliumOS and trying this out, just haven't found step by step instructions for how to push the UEFI firmware yet (I'll go look around some more). Any help is appreciated, nice TV.

the UEFI firmware should work OOTB without any tweaking. Best thing to do is backup your existing userdata (use LE's built-in tool), boot a Linux USB (GalliumOS works well), install the UEFI firmware, create LE install media, reboot, reinstall LE fresh, then restore your old userdata.

Thanks Matt. I've done each of those steps in the past except "install the UEFI firmware." Is that just a new option within the EZ script?

no, I haven't integrated that into the EZ Setup Script yet. For now, you have to use my Firmware Utility Script instead. Sometime in the near future it will become the default for the custom firmware option of the EZ Setup Script, I just haven't had time to test everything, and wanted to make sure there weren't any major issues with it.

Hi Matt,

I'm currently on Kodi 17 beta. It recently tried updating to the newest beta release that came out. This error occurred.

It stated "Your system FAT partition is too small for this update and there is not enough space for the update to be installed. You must your system using the disc image of a current release or resize your current partitions so that the FAT size is at least 512 mb in size."

What would be the best solution for this, and how would I go about that?

Thanks!!!!

you need to resize the system partition, as per note #5 here, or backup and do a clean install

RE: ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2016/10/12] - t2ffn - 2016-12-23

So I've followed the above instructions, installed the UEFI firmware, installed LibreELEC 7.90.010 which installed fine.

I have two issues now;
1. I can't get it to boot properly if the HDMI is plugged into my AVR. The TV shows no input on the HDMI source from the AVR. It boots fine if connected to a PC monitor though.
2. I've moved my advancedsettings.xml into Userdata but my library isn't populating. I've added the sources etc. and 'update library' does nothing.
3. Also won't play any videos from the NAS. The name shows up top right of the screen when you select something to play after finding it through the network, but video window doesn't open and video doesn't play.

I wonder if the alpha release has an issue.
