RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - Koying - 2016-09-13

"video/x-ms-wmv" is for VC1 Simple and Main profiles (=WMV3)
VC-1 "proper" (= advanced profile) is "video/wvc1"

Not sure what profile BD's are using. A MediaInfo would tell...

Quote:"video/x-ms-wmv" is for VC1 Simple and Main profiles (=WMV3)
VC-1 "proper" (= advanced profile) is "video/wvc1"

Not sure what profile BD's are using. A MediaInfo would tell...
The native "Video" app on the TV properly decodes BD VC-1 in HW though. Probably the TV fails to provide the proper profiles?

I can provide a sample if desired.

I'm not very well acquainted with AndroidTV, is there a way I could have an app list its codec capabilities that the TV provides OR show what level of permissions it has?

RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - CiNcH - 2016-09-14

Seems like there is a MediaCodec related workaround for the "video/x-ms-wmv"/"video/wvc1" problem in VLC, see here.

Code:
/* If the device can't handle video/wvc1,
* it can probably handle video/x-ms-wmv */
if (!strcmp(mime, "video/wvc1") && p_dec->fmt_in.i_codec == VLC_CODEC_VC1)

RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - Koying - 2016-09-14

Yeah, possibly, but the scary part is that they explicitly blacklisted OMX.MTK.VIDEO.DECODER.VC1 Wink

RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - CiNcH - 2016-09-14

Hahaha, that's funny. I did not recognize that. However, as previously stated, several VC-1 samples I tried played fine in HW with the native "Video" app. There might be a lack of standardization in the VC-1 world.

RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - Koying - 2016-09-14

Indeed, but we know that the internal players are taking shortcuts...

Why is that scary?

This isn't my "experience" TV. That is for the CRT in the basement which has a full blown media PC behind it. I'm fine with a cheat, I just want hardware decoding somehow, is it possible we could adapt the VLC workaround? Or can I make the change one-off on my TV?

RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - CiNcH - 2016-09-14

The cheat most probably wouldn't work. VLC blacklisted our TV with the MediaTek (MTK) chipset for VC-1 because it only produces a black screen with the cheat. There is a lack of proper specification for VC-1 for Android/MediaCodec. That's why application and driver don't understand each other too well.

Ah, that makes more sense. Thanks for spelling that out for me! So are we just boned here or is there a glimmer of hope?

RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - CiNcH - 2016-09-14

Using the native "Video" app is the only solution currently for VC-1.

We can just hope that MediaTek will one day enable video/wvc1 and specify how to properly exchange data via the MediaCodec API.

Can someone please tell me how I can remove sources (added servers) in the video section? As I don't have a "C" button or menu button on my remote control.
I have a Sony Barvia Android TV. Is this possible with the standard remote control? http://i.rtings.com/images/reviews/w850c/w850c-remote-large.jpg

Thank you so much!

You have a couple of options.
  1. Use the Add-on:Keymap Editor. This allows you to map any Kodi key function to a button on your Sony remote. Choose a rarely used remote key, or the number 0 for e.g as your 'C' key. You can have it active only on the menus where you need it within Kodi. On playback for instance 0 can revert back to a number for seek purposes.
  2. Use the Kodi Remote App on your smart phone. Theres one for iOS and also Android I believe. This gives you access to all keys and also a full screen keyboard which comes in handy.

I have a sony bravia tvs xd93 (2016 model) and logitech z5500. Kodi does not support dts or dolby on this system. in the kodi's advanced sound menu "optical out" section does not seem, but 2015 bravia tv's menu it seems. what should I do? Thank you.
