RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - Koying - 2016-09-13 "video/x-ms-wmv" is for VC1 Simple and Main profiles (=WMV3) VC-1 "proper" (= advanced profile) is "video/wvc1" Not sure what profile BD's are using. A MediaInfo would tell... Probably the TV fails to provide the proper profiles? I can provide a sample if desired. I'm not very well acquainted with AndroidTV, is there a way I could have an app list its codec capabilities that the TV provides OR show what level of permissions it has? RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - CiNcH - 2016-09-14 Seems like there is a MediaCodec related workaround for the "video/x-ms-wmv"/"video/wvc1" problem in VLC, see here. Code: /* If the device can't handle video/wvc1, RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - Koying - 2016-09-14 Yeah, possibly, but the scary part is that they explicitly blacklisted OMX.MTK.VIDEO.DECODER.VC1 ![]() RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - CiNcH - 2016-09-14 Hahaha, that's funny. I did not recognize that. However, as previously stated, several VC-1 samples I tried played fine in HW with the native "Video" app. There might be a lack of standardization in the VC-1 world. RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - Koying - 2016-09-14 Indeed, but we know that the internal players are taking shortcuts... This isn't my "experience" TV. That is for the CRT in the basement which has a full blown media PC behind it. I'm fine with a cheat, I just want hardware decoding somehow, is it possible we could adapt the VLC workaround? Or can I make the change one-off on my TV? RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - CiNcH - 2016-09-14 The cheat most probably wouldn't work. VLC blacklisted our TV with the MediaTek (MTK) chipset for VC-1 because it only produces a black screen with the cheat. There is a lack of proper specification for VC-1 for Android/MediaCodec. That's why application and driver don't understand each other too well. RE: KODI on Sony Bravia Smart TVs (2015) based on Android TV - CiNcH - 2016-09-14 Using the native "Video" app is the only solution currently for VC-1. We can just hope that MediaTek will one day enable video/wvc1 and specify how to properly exchange data via the MediaCodec API.
