RE: Kodi Media Players State of the Union: Best Options in 2024 - clarkss12 - 2024-02-13

Received my DUNE HD Pro One 8K Plus today, and made a video.  Been testing Kodi (not sure why someone would use Kodi on this device) and it plays  perfectly, except Dolby Vision.  I installed the "Google Play Store" version (20.3.2, compiled 2024-01-10).
Playing "Back to the Future". it plays with Dolby Atmos and HDR 10+, with 24fps.....
My TV/Monitor is a Vizio P65Q9-H1, and AVR Yamaha RX-A880.

Information from "Back to the Future"
HDR format : Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.07.06, BL+EL+RPU, Blu-ray compatible / SMPTE ST 2094 App 4, Version 1, HDR10+ Profile B compatible

Will a beta version of Kodi support Dolby Vision?

20.x is only supporting Dolby Vision in mp4 containers
yes, a beta version should work fine https://mirrors.kodi.tv/nightlies/android/arm/master/
but the latest nightlies are having input issues with remotes not working properly, best to grab one from early to mid January

Thank you for that information.
Also, why are you using the Kodi OS, instead of the Dune OS?

Ive using Kodi for 10+ years and have Jurialmunkey's skin installed with his helper. I get to see all the ratings available for any given movie. I also use media companion to manage art and NFO's.

I use Dune's player for all my content.

Done, thanks.

@clarkss12, saw your YT video. Looks like LLDV is working fine. This player is supposed to also be able to handle both the base + enhancement layers in DV Profile 7, which remains to be seen. Reading some of the posts in the AVSForum thread, looks like there are early firmware issues related to DV, fallback HDR & the Dolby VS10 engine. Unsurprising as this is the case with pretty much most media players initially.

Perhaps because of numerous addons that people depend on, or because of numerous subtitle options and subtitles sources integrations ? Just to mention some of my reasons Wink

Or because Kodi is simply the best front-end & media manager there is Big Grin!

Uff I repeat what a shame that dune 8k isn't netflix certified

If this Homatics box (w/the same SoC) sees the light of day, I'm assuming it should. But, no further news since Fall of last year.

Are you the author of the link you posted?   Do you have this box?  If so, did you test Kodi running under Android??

I didn't write the review, I follow a couple of dune Russian forums and found the review.

I would like to purchase this box but waiting for it to process FEL correctly, basically waiting for Saving Private Ryan to not flicker using the Dune Player.
