sudo apt-get install fluxbox

and change the upstart script. That's still minimal :-).

Less minimal but ya,

xbmc can still be ran via gdb just not automatically (otherwise its always running gdb in background) it has to be manual without using fluxbox, only helpful for debugging in any case, if ever some dev asks for a gdb output it can be done, I just like the idea of having it automatically do that while not compromising the idea of not having window managers no matter how lightweight.

In any case I dont understand any gdb output, its really for those rare (knock on wood) times xbmc crashes.

Thanks for your suggestions though, as usual really educative.

We do this with all fernetmenta code. Wsnipex is packaging them automatically every night. Same btw. with xbmc nightlies.

Edit: Concerning the priority. Show the threads with ps and compare priorities. It's not about the primary xbmc.bin. Audio should have 21.

ok so the nice level should be added. kinda funny, i wrote that upstart script 2 yrs ago now its finally going around.

@fritsch what is your opinion on ubuntu 13.10. I have it installed currently but i cant get the suspend option to show in xbmc. The main reason i was going to try 13.10 is i'm getting micro-skipping with bitstream audio. could the nice level and AEsink be releated to the micro-skipping. I dont think i have noticed it though since i updated to 13.10.

also general question. whats the status on the nvidia drivers on ubuntus ppas. 304 is default but they go up to 313 but nvidia has 331 on their site. what drivers are working good with xbmc? or just newer=better

The nvidia problem is a missing modeline, post: /usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc-xrandr | pastebinit and verify that you have a 23.9758 mode.

oh i know about modelines. i got that all setup in my xorg. my micro skipping is with flac audio playback that is multichannel. its intermittent though. i think i might have nailed it down. more testing is needed. it just cropped up recently as i did a re-install cuz i had some extra hdds so i setup a raid 0 Tongue although i think might is 23.976767676. i'm using custom ones in my xorg. so i should just comment those out and see what xrandr spits out? or do i need to find the modeline for that refresh rate?

also on another note. do you have any idea why this script reports alsa-base and alsa-utils are installed on 13.10 when in fact they are not? I know i can just through an apt-get install -y alsa-utils and alsa-base. i just dont understands bram77's fucntion hes got going on in that script that checks if a package is installed. I ran the command but the output was not what i was expecting... i was expecting a <packagename> "1" or "0" but there is a bunch o stuff. i'll get output once i'm done installing 13.10 again (rolled back for testing)

i'll post the xrandr as well. just cuz i've always wondered which EXACT modeline to use lol

until i can actually run xbmc-randr again here is my xorg.

331 nvidia works so so, I get 30fps when it should output 60fps but otherwise it works ok

In short: Don't use 331 for now. Stick to 319, also don't use 313.

Neither of the 3XX was ok but then when downgrading to 304.88 playback was jerky as shite, 319 from xswat are badly packaged as the accuse same module says its 308 when should be 319.. So 331.20 sorted at out for now at minimal cost.

I may have to repackage and build the drivers in ppa myself. Though my packaging skills are dire.

We ship 319 in OpenELEC (current master). Furthermore it runs in my living room :-)

na read the warning on the binary installer.

They recommend ppa packaged nvidia drivers fro your distro because it fill the needs of how the distro works.

Mind you it ""works"" but ist a sloppy way at best. DO it for testing ONLY.
